I'm having weird mouse clicking problems

I'm not sure if this is from some sort of virus or not, but about a week ago, my mouse just started acting funny. What it's been doing is that sometimes it acts like a single click is a double click. Like if I go to open something and double click on it, it will actually open it twice. Or if I try to move a window and click on the top bar, it will act like it double clicked and maximize the window.

Anyone ever heard of this happening? I'm not sure if I got some virus through email or not, but I've ran a virus scan a couple of times and have found nothing.

So any ideas on what might be causing this?

What kind of mouse is it?

If it's logitech, just go to their website and download the software they have for the mouse.

no, it's a microsoft optical mouse. While the drivers are installed for it, there may be new drivers, but then why would this start happening just last week?

Can you test with a different mouse?
Maybe it's going bad.
Does it always act like you're double-clicking it?
Could someone have gotten on your computer & changed the mouse settings?
I believe there's a control panel setting that makes a single click act like a double one.
