I'm having some problems with BOINC

OK so it's finally getting cool enough outside that I can run BOINC.

So I fire it up the other day, and I noticed in the task manager that BOINC would be using 100% for ~10 seconds, and then it would drop down to 50% for a second and then go back up. This cycle continued until I got weirded out and quit the program. I've tried it a couple times since then, and the same thing happens. According to the task manager, the System Idle Process is what takes up the other 50% for that second.

The only thing that is different now is the new version of the BOINC manager.

Any ideas? I'm running this on a slightly O/C'd C2D E6600 with the rig in my sig.

edit: and it's not the same as http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2101513&enterthread=y

I'll get a screen of it when I get home.

Well, on around 10 seconds, off 1 second, seems like you're running with a "Use at most N percent of cpu-time" somewhere around 90%...

Since BOINC can't use smaller time-interwall than 1 second, every time you're running with less than 100% cpu-preference, you're run for X seconds, and pause for Y seconds. The most "even" is 50%, with 1 second on, 1 second off...

So, everytime someone has a "consistent" oscillation, chances are it's due to preferences, either picked-up WCG-default since joined as new user since AFAIK default here is probably less than 100%, or wrong venue, or wrong local override-preferences...
