i'm having problems with copy/paste? wtf?

this is a weird problem. my computer seems to not always want to copy when i try to copy something. sometimes i have to copy it 10 times before i can paste it somewhere else.

i have tried CTRL - C, and just doing edit - > copy... and i don't know what it is, but it just doesn't seem to 'take' the first time. very annoying.

here's my hardware:

xp 2400 cpu
msi kt3 ultra2-raid mb
768mb crucial pc2100 ddr
2x 40gig 7200rpm drives in raid-0 array
16x samsung dvd
40x12x40 samsung cd-rw
lucent winmodem
onboard sound
linksys 10/100 pci nic
and, don't laugh (it's a long story), a viper v770 32mb tnt2 video card.
running win2k pro

any ideas???

that cant be the problem though, because i have done it all with the mouse before too

highlight it, go to edit > copy, then go somewhere else and do edit > paste, and i get nothing.

Like in all applications or what? Sometimes I get that with certain applications b/c although I am in a window working the focus is ona window that is behind what I am doing.

Is this in every program? Or going from a certin program to another?
