EDIT: im thinking it may be a driver conflict or PSU falier but i doubt its a driver conflict because he is using the restore cd's he got from emachienes ad it was my old psu that i gave him from aspire so i dont know what it could be either than that

maby but i dont think so because you know when you hover over the ok button and the apply button it gets an orange border it doesnt sometimes

My wife's computer acted like that once. I first replaced the keyboard and mouse and the problems went away. They came back about 2 monts later, and then I replaced the power supply and all has been well ever since. However, when I replaced the power supply I noticed that the PATA cable was a little bit loose on the hard drive. I pressed it in all the way. I't been 6 monthes with no problems, so it was either the PSU or the bad connection at the hard drive. I did try here original mouse and keyboard and those seem to work fine. I haven't put back in her old power supply to see if the problem was perhaps the loose PATA connection - it all works and I don't want to touch it.

So, my advice is to remove the case and check all internal connections inside the computer.

If it is a PS2 connected mouse, try a USB Mouse if you have one
If the problem goes away, then maybe you have a bad PS2 port
on the motherboard or the PS2 port drivers need to be reinstalled.
And as noted above, it is possible a loose connector somewhere
is causing the issue.
