Hello technical elite..
Im currently running at 3.2 mhz on an overclocked e6400...I have a evga 680i motherboard.
But Im greedy and I want to go to 3.4mhz.I tried to reach 3.4 mhz but windows would not boot. Also Im currently running my system with
ocz 657 mhz ram and would like to know if I should overclock my ram to 800mhz.

Here is the kicker...im a noob and I would like someone to tell me how(In terms that a noob/non technical upstart can understand). So can some one give me a"simple' on how to achieve my goals...so that I can sit on the throne of the elite and look down on and feel redeemed..for all the money that I have thrown away to dell in the past...lol.

here are my current settings

cpu 8x402 cpu core=3.216 mhz.
fsb frecuency 1,608 mhz
memory bus frecuency 657(ddr2)mhz
cpu voltage 1.462 v
fsb 1.500 v
n force spp 1.35 v

Here are my system stas:

thermaltake armor jr. case black
ocz 700w power supply
evga nvidia 680i sli motherboard
intel core 2 duo e6400
zalman 9500 cooler
ocz high performance ddr2 gold 667mhz speed
2 western digital 250 gb sata harddrives
creative labs x-fi soundcard
PNY 7900gs graphics card
plextor 716a dvd drive
lite-on dvd drive

try 425FSB at 8x multi and try running your memory at near stock speeds to keep that out of the equation.

Try bumping up the voltage settings up 1 more notch and see what happens.

I think by Mhz, you mean Ghz.
As for advice, I do not have your system in my house, so I cannot tell you exactly which options to tinker with in the BIOS screen when your system boots up, but I agree with cmdrdredd in general principle. That is to say, try and keep as many things within spec and adjust each item individually by small amounts (i.e. RAM timings, RAM frequency, CPU frequency, CPU voltage, NB voltage, etc..)
I do wish you luck and applaud your courage and tenacity !

Geez, that's a lot of volts for your CPU.

I have my E6400 running Orthos in blended mode in the background right now at 3.2GHz at stock settings(including stock voltage for the CPU, 1.3v according to the board) but I guess I got a good CPU... I suppose I will know if it doesn't just crash, lol, but temps at stable at high 50's so I think I got a good set-up! :D I'll be posting up screenshots tomorrow once I pass several hours at this... Orthos is only at 1 hour 55 minutes now.

I'm not really sure why you think you can make OCZ ram rated so low run so fast other than they suckered another person. Crucial, Mushkin, and Corsair brands rated at high speeds are the brands you should be considering if you want to overclock. ;)

OCZ is the Bose of ram brands... all hype. I know I will take heat for this statement but system builders know it's true. Give me Crucial/Corsair any old day. And Klipsch if we are taliking speakers. ;)

680i changes strap around 1700FSB (425FSB quad-pumped). 1700FSB would be very hard to boot and flaky even if you make it in. Try 1699, or 1720.

when you're in the BIOS...does it actually say 1600Mhz FSB? Or are you selecting 400Mhz?

Because the way you are explaining it is very confusing.

Those temps seem high. My temps never go higher than 51C under full Orthos load for 8+ hours, or any other application for that matter. Using Intel Thermal Analysis tool to monitor temps but it's basically the same with other tools.

What cooling are you using?

Klipsch speakers are okay for what you find in Best Buy but I'll go with Revel, B&W Matrix, Joseph or a variety of others over them any day. But of course speakers are quite personal. If Klipsch does it for you then cool!

Wow..lol..
Please keep it simple..w.
Im a first time overclocker...lol.I'm trying to catch up with all the lingo.

My system wont boot at my current stats if I try to go to 3.4 so lowering
voltages wont help.My system ran stable on orthos overnight at about 47C
full load.

So I would like to know what bio changes that i would have to make(with out frying my system)to go higher.

Now for the ram question..
Should I leave my ram speed at stock 667mhz or should I over clock it to 800mhz speed?
Would this im prove my system and make it faster or would it hinder it?Keep in mind I dont know crap about timmings....

here are my current settings

cpu 8x402 cpu core=3.216 ghz.
fsb frecuency 1,608 mhz
memory bus frecuency 667(ddr2)mhz

In 680i BIOS, you can select the (already) quad-pumped FSB by the incremental of 1. A picture would better explain this.

To OP: I just saw another thread of yours with exact same topic. I'd like to remind you that it's really not necessary but rather an annoyance to some forum members to creating multiple threads with a same topic. It also helps you resolve your problems to keep information in one thread. :)

Thank you!!!!

All I have been doing for the past month is researching on the internet
and reading maximum pc and cpu magazines.unsatisfied with Dell and my 9150's
limitations....I decided that I was going to build my own computer....which I did all by myself....I returned my 9150(which was a long drawn out fight...but I won)and I used the money to buy parts for my new set up.......A new path of illumination has opened up and GOldlight was born!!!!!Lol

So I found anandtech.com and it was like a mouse in a room full of cheese...a gold mine!!!!

I have read about over clocking but I want to do it right=====anandtech!!!!!

I have used many security suites and adware, anti virus',and etc in the past but which ones use less memory, resources, and etc....oh let me look on =====anandtech!!!!!

I want to learn how to dual boot 2 operating systems on a hard drive======anandtech didnt help me with this one but I researched and found out any way...lol

Why does my 500 gig hard drive register at 465 gb instead of 500=======let me check on anandtech!!!!!!(I didnt know that I was going to be called dumb for this one...it was a honest noobie mistake lol)

So as you can see.....anandtech has become my new obsession.......
a weeks worth full of research can be shortened to a day.....well it depends on the answers that you get.......some answers are good and to the point.....
some people insult you for even asking a question(lol)......and some people have become so technical that their answers are not even human anymore..lol.Good or bad...I love it!!!!!!

Has anandtech spoiled me....yes!!
should I stop researching on my own???No, but there is always anandtech!!!lol
Do I feel bitter about giving Dell thousands of dollars over the years...yes!!!I'm
never going back..

So there you have it......
And remember before everyone of you became a platinum, diamond, elite member, and etc..
You were all newbies just like me!!!!!!!Lol

Happy New Year!!!!!Now I'm going to check out "Hot deals"..lol

your silly, the tcasemax for this sucker is 85, nothing wrong with high 50's. and hell until i lapped mine and added a better fan to my TTBT, I was gettin into the upper 60's(coretemp).. but then again I have a shitload of vcore on my cpu :D.

you don't feel the true speed of a core2duo until atleast 3.4 ghz, after that everything loads snappier and windows boots like a rocket. 3.2 ghz is a joke. :p

btw I'm at 3.6ghz now and run idle low 50's/high 40's and depending on ambients load up to 62.

3.2Ghz is a joke and you're talking about loading apps faster? LOL...you know that's HDD related stuff

Plus 200Mhz isn't that much when you're talking 2fps gain or no gain depending on the game. And 2sec higher score in some benchmark that means nothing (superpi).

To say 3.2Ghz is slow is really a slap in the face to everyone here who doesn't want to spend $60+ on a HFS and/or has a CPU that won't do it reliably. I think you should re-evaluate yourself.
