Ok I am rebuilding my system once more, seem like I do it every year. Anyway,
I have the MSI K8T -NEO2 MB, a 3000+CPU and 2GB of DDR.
I have just bought a new 300GB/7200 RPM/ SATA DRIVE, i have hooked it up to my MB and turned on the power. Bootup is fine but If I have the SATA drive plugged in alone, the drive doesn't show up. If I use my 200GB IDE drive on IED1, and then use the SATA on SATA1. After startup I can see the drive in the registry.

Problem is I want to use the SATA drive as my primary drive and my IDE drives will be my storage drives on IDE channels.

What is going wrong?

Disconnect ALL drives except the SATA and your CDdrive.

When you first install XP, - in the first few seconds - it will ask you to press F6 to install drivers for SCSI or RAID. You'll only have a short time to press F6 -
Then you will need your floppy with the SATA drivers for the mobo.

Let us know what happens

wouldn't this be installing the raid option?

I will try what you suggest, I have just completed formatting the drive useing the NTFS file structure, I was able to do this through the existing windows on my primary IDE hard drive.

This is the way to install a SATA device, afaik.

Also, In the BIOS, when you want to boot, using the SATA hdd, if the mobo hasn't got a specific option for SATA, then you may want to use the SCSI option instead..............
weird

Ok, I was so blind with anger, I could have thrown this complete system out the window. Finally after four hours I have figured this out and it is up and running.
It seems that the problem was within the Bios, I had to go into Integrated Peripherals / OnBoard PCI controller and enable the SATA device. This was very wierd because in all other locations such as the boot sector, my SATA drive was being shown. I was able to Install XP without any problems, I'm currently at 60% full load and all is well.

Thanks for the support and advice..........
