I'm gonna need a new Cell Phone Carrier Soon

I found This useful chart to help me compare prices. I'm not a heavy cell phone user and I should be more than ok with around three - four hundred minutes and T-Mobile is offering 300 Daytime + Unlimited Night and Weekend for $30. That may be cutting it close (only one 10 min phone conversation a day? yikes!) so I think i'm thinking about going with either the 1500 Anytime from T-mobile (For $40/month) or the 450 +Unlimited+Rollover on Cingular (also for $40 a month). Cingular seems to have better deals on phones themselves.

I want your guys opinion mainly on the service and range the phones provide. My sprint phone drops calls like they're going out of style. 🙁 Which provider will give me the best coverage? If verizon is significantly better, i'll go with them but they are a LOT more expensive. 🙁

I'm in Southeast Michigan if that makes a difference.

T-Mobile's minutes are definitely a plus over Cingular. I would pick T-Mobile's 600 anytime minutes... But I guess 1500 is a little better even if you lose weekend/nights...

My vote goes to Verizon. I have Cingular, and for having "the biggest nationwide network" I get crappy reception just about everywhere.

i went from Sprint to Verizon and the service is much better!!
i use to get drop calls all the time in my house now i never do

You need to find out who has the best coverage in your area...ask around. Before then, who gives a fvck about phones or minutes.

GSM and the highest possible tech phones is #1 for me..

verizon and sprint are still on antique lines and services and phones which makes it s huge no go for me..
Its a wonder that any service can get the support it does in the states that isnt even close to a standard around the world (we are the ones behind)
the rest of the world is 100% GSM where we only have 1 service (Tmobile) that is fully upgraded.

yet people here in the US are satified with sub par service and subpar phones.

Where do you travel in Michigan OP?? Cuz from my experience my phone(Verizon) gets the best reception especially once you get outta town, my girl has t-mobile and yea....not so great once you are out of the city. However it's up to you and what you wanna spend and if you do travel worldwide a GSM phone might suit your needs more....otherwise Verizon does have the best service/reception I've seen in SE Mich...

A coworker of mine just dropped T-Mobile for Verizon. She had spotty coverage around Grand Rapids and in northern Michigan. She has only had Verizon for a couple of days but seems to be very happy with them so far. I use Nextel for my cell provider.

Sprint has high speed data rates that are at 2.4 mbps, way faster than anything you can get from GSM. GSM is inferior to CDMA.

Same situation here, I moved and Sprint bites it in this area (but I never had any problems with them before moving) so I just signed up for Tmobile. That 1500 minute deal is the best out there right now. They say Tmobile here is good but it really depends on your area.

Holy Christ you're ignorant. Going with GSM over all else just on principal? Nice. Whatever. Enjoy.

For you intelligent people out there, you're right that you just need to see what works in your area. My old apartment got PERFECT Sprint service in any room, but other carriers got bad service. My new apartment gets bad Sprint service, but great service for all the other carriers. It's all about where you live in relation to the tower. That should be your #1 priority.
