I'm gonna make snow for my kids

I?m gonna make snow, and no I?m not crazy, I ran across this a while back and have decided to put together a machine with the partial plans found here, check it out and tell me what you think. I wanted to do it for Christmas for my kids but it didn?t get cold enough, now I have to put it together, get it running and wait on a cold wave. The reason I want to do this is because I live in north Alabama and we haven?t had a substantial snow in over 10 years, it seems like we used to get a good snow or two every year but my oldest children are now 9 and have never been able to play in the snow. So what do you think? I just need low temps and low humidity for the most success.

So ho wmuch did it cost you to make?

And is it basically just the pressure washer going into the one tube and the air compressor going into the other one and that's what sprays it out? So if you have a pressure washer and a compressor, you just need $10 worth of connectors and such and that's it?

That'd be pretty cool.

We have cold weather all the time in WI but don't always get snow when we need it. That'd be cool to make for my daughter to be able to play in next winter. Let us know how it goes...

EDIT: Doesn't look like you'll be making snow any time soon...

No doubt the forecast is not going to be helpful the next week or so, but we are due some single digit temps and I am confident on that happening in January. As for the cost to build this rig, the big thing was the nozzles which I ordered form snowathome, they were expensive at around $50, with the inclusion of the rest of the hoses, stand material and etc. I'll have around $100 in it, of course that's not counting my pressure washer and compressor, which I already had.

I don't have time to search through that page, but you can't just use any air compressor... IIRC, something to do with oil in the lubrication; it's got to be able to run for more than 10 minutes without overheating.

And, for the "cheaper to take them somewhere that has snow"???

Are you nuts? It's less than $50 to do what he's doing, unless he uses the air compressor and pressure washer exclusively for that purpose.

looks like a fun project...but won't the sound of an air compressor plus a pressure washer running all night drive your neighbors crazy?

post pics when you get it going

I agree and thought about the noise issue, my plan is to keep both the compressor and pressure washer in the garage, I am getting long hoses for both. I wil post pics after the first snow.

Huge water bill I see in your near future

I disagree, I have never measured it but I know the actual volume of water I use when pressure washing is very low, it just under high pressure.

It doesn't snow in the north anymore. Another stupid mild winter here in Ohio again. I don't know if it is global warming or what, but every winter there is less and less snow here.
