Im gonna have to get a ROOT CANAL!

Im dead....went to the dentist today cos of a toothache..

it was soo bad that the cavity is very close to the nerve so the dentist said im gonan need a root canal.


OMG..... i know this is gonna hurt big time..

share some experiences???

I haven't been to the dentist for about 15 years and I'm scared to go. I think I might have a cavity in one of my back tooths.

I've had it done, and I don't understand why everyone says it hurts.

They do have this nifty drug called novacane you know.

The most painful part is the needle.

The rest is the sounds of drilling and scraping, and stuff, but not pain.

mine took like 4 hours, but really didn't hurt... just took a long time

oh man..u better check that out soon man...

i actually first felt the pain 2 months ago..but ignored it thinking it was nothing..

til last nite...it got soo bad that i couldnt eat....the doctor told me..if u went and checked it 2 months ago....no root canal needed...

now....too late....

btw...this root canal is gonan cosr me $800 .. and i have no dental insurance...

I've had 2 in the past year (old fillings that leak = root canal ). The most painful parts were the needle(s) of novacaine and my jaw was really sore afterwards.

Oh god does the needle part hurt. I think he was using like
20 different needles and just jabbing it in the root of my
tooth.

Good thing is you will have some nice pain pills.

They usually rub numbing stuff before poking you with the needle.

I went to the dentist once or twice a year all my life. I had no problem with it. That was until I had a root canal 12 years ago. Holy smoking burning ashes in Hell!! I haven't been back since. I hate those bastages!:|

Look into sedation dentistry. You take a pill before you go to the detist and by the time they start on you you're knocked out and don't feel a thing. Then they just wait for you to wake up and have a friend drive you home. No drilling sounds, no smoke from burning enamel, no needles, no anxiety.

I hear too many stories of dentists molesting you while you're asleep to allow that to happen to me.

My sister had her wisdom teeth pulled (all four), a cracked tooth fixed, and a root canal done within a month. That truly must have been hell.

Good luck with yours, novacane should take the pain away and I'm sure if it is to be very painful, he'd advise you to take some Motrin or something.

the worst part is thinking about it.

the next worst part is how BORING it is, cuz it takes a long time.

the next worse part is the novacaine thing.. it's pretty low on the all time bad things scale (course, I've delivered 2 children unmedicated.. that kinda alters your pain thermometer.. I lopped the end of my thumb off with a slicer a few years ago, drove myself to get it stitched back together.. it was worse than a root canal, but.. on the all time pain scale? it didn't hurt so much..).. unpleasant while it's happening then it's over, and it only takes a minute. not fun, but thinking about it is worse than living it.

the next worse part is paying for it.

the next worse part is the whole your lips are numb so you feel like you're drooling all the time but you're not thing, after you leave.

then it's pretty much done. 'cept for the whole now you need a crown thing.

really, the pain that sent you to the dentist to find out you needed the root canal.. that was the worst. the actual thing is really just kind of icky and way boring.
