So I have never bought a console. Ok, last year I bought a slim PS2 to play Katamari then returned it.
I have never been a big gamer, I have CS:S and play that a couple times a week. UT was an old favorite. At work we have a ton of systems, I play Guitar Hero there a few times a week.
Point is, I have never been a big gamer. Then I saw the Wii, had to have it. Went to EB and preordered it. I then noticed they were selling on eBay for $600+, so I sold my preorder for $610. After fees and what not, I made about $250 (i included a wiimote and nunchuck). We will revisit the Wii later.
Then there is the PS3, i know this pisses some folks off, but I camped out just to sell it. I was first in line at a Target in my town (my Best buy plan was foiled when there 20 people on Wednesday). I bought it and put it on eBay. eBay mistakingly took my auction down. After they reviewed they told me I could put it back up today, too late because I had relisted and sold it for $1256. Which made me about $450, not as much as I wanted but hey its something and the camping out for 44 hours was a blast.
So back to the Wii, I still wanted one but based on the reports I figured walking in on launch day would get me one since there were so many. Nope. Sold out. Oh well I thought, I can wait. But I was looking on eBay and saw one ending soon: Nintendo Wii with Zelda and Extra Remote... ok. I'll bite. One it for $375 shipped, $10 over retail + tax in my state. A Sweet deal considering they were going for $430 at the time, and that was just the console! I found it funny having sold mine for so much and then getting one for so little while the other auctions around it were going for much more. Heck yesterday they were back in the $600 range.
I was feeling pretty good. Then there is the Xbox 360. As some of you may know, Amazon was selling core systems for $100 yesterday. I wanted one to give it a shot. I practiced my technique and guess what, it paid off. I got one. I am so frackin excited. It is such a great deal. THen I picked up the live gold camera package today for just $40. I know i need an HD for live, but I am going to hold out on registering it until they release the rumored 80GB hard drive.
So. Not only will I now have to buy games and play these more often, I got two next gen consoles for basically $225 ($100 360 + $125 Wii (Price of Wii on eBay - my Wii eBay preorder profit). If you factor in my PS3 profits, I walked away with 2 consoles and $225.
So yeah, I am gonna be a gamer.
Just a note before I get yelled at, I had no intention of selling my preordered Wii when I got. I wanted it for myself, and considering everyone thought stock would be plentiful I didn't even think about it. Once I saw that people were paying so much for them, I couldnt resist...
