I'm going to start my own business

Just walked into the restroom, and gagged. This is a moderate size public restroom, probably the size of my entire living room at home. How the hell can a single person pollute a space that size to that degree? If that was a normal sized single seat restroom, nobody would've gotten out alive.

So here's my idea - a stench sensor in the bathroom connected to three lights above the door - red, yellow, and green. So you know if its safe to open. You could network it to the corporate webpage as well, so you could pull up the page and know what restrooms are safe before you head out to do your business.

Anyone want to invest?

Throw in a "Urine on the toilet seat", "Urine on the floor" detection system and you've got a deal.

Tie the system into a turbine based ventilation system that will exchange the entire volume of air in the room in short order and I'm there.

Yeah, but then you would embarrass the people who walk out of the restroom and turn the light red. Especially women, they're more conciencious (sp?) about those sorts of things.

Some people deserve to be embarrassed. Especially those that don't wash their hands (see classic Far Side strip).

If it was a normal sized single seat restroom, why would more than one person be in it?

Reminds me of a farside cartoon. It has a guy coming out of the bathroom and a huge sign above the door is flashing "Did Not Wash Hands!!"

My company just has a "stench sensor" that activates fans and "squirts" freshener in the air when the room becomes fowl...It is quite nice actually. I kind of make it a game when I'm dropping a big one to see if I can get the air freshenor to be used by the system...sign of a quality dump.

which leads me to the question: why can't you wait until you get home to take that dump?

Are you sick? Think of the children???
and the pets...
and the houseplants...
and the upholstery...

This restroom has one, but I think it's on a timer and not stench activated. Anyway, it wasn't helping.

Besides, I know some people who would do their best to make the light turn red and brag about it later on.

I for one would.

See - that's where you would make the real cash. Options!
I like the automatic remediation angle - anything from a squirt of air freshener, to calling out the HAZMAT team and ordering an evacuation of the local are.

Heh...wonder if you could mod an iRobot Roomba to clean the piss off of bathroom floors. 😀
