right now, I have a domain and host to waste, If anyone wants to help me out(you most likely wont get paid) and possibly make a site designed for hardware trading. Kind of like www.mydvdtrades.com except we wont charge anything. Im asking for three things. Your oppinion, and if you would use it, Your advice, and of course, anyone looking to help me out in making this site. The layout is pretty much done, I just need someone with MYSQL experience, to put together a search engine. LMK! Thanks

Thanks, I think this would be great, and there is definetly room for it, all we have no is the FT board and Ebay. This would be like ebay mixed with an online store. You would browse by category of what you need, and then when you find your item, you would just pm the owner.

What makes you think you can build a site when you can't even properly link (look at your sig)?

I don't think it would really catch on since we have AT FS/FT and Heatware.com

yeah, between FS/FT, ebay, craigslist, and Hot Deals, there are already a lot of options to get a good price on the hardware you're looking for...

And with AT there is also the threat of bannage to bad traders, which for Off-Topic addicts is a fate worse than death :)

please do not mention bannage and Off-Topic in the same sentence around me again. I nearly passed out on top of my sword from fear!

As for the website, I'm sure some people would be into it, but I imagine it would be hard to get going b/c traders and a peculiar bunch and are usually set in their ways as to what site(s) they use. It'll be hard to initially compete with the likes of ebay, and the FT forum here. I don't want to shoot down your idea, but trying to be realistic. I think in the long run it would be good, just don't expect huge turnout right away.

i think it is a good idea, but how will you deal with trolls? I think if the site offered some kind of troll protection service then people would be more likely to use it.

Seems pointless. If you want to sell hardware, there are a million places to do it already. If you're actually interested strictly in trading hardware for other hardware, what's the point?

With DVD's you get a different story each time, even though the value is about the same. With hardware, the value of items varies so much that trading isn't feasible most of the time. I mean, if you're gonig to trade a 2.0ghz P4 chip to someone, you have a pretty limited selection of parts you can get back that are of compareable value.

With DVDs, everything's value is roughly equivelent, which is why that works.
