I'm going to lease a 2014 Grand Cherokee

gorcorps

aka Brandon
Just got back from the dealer where a buddy and I both signed up for leases on new 2014 Grand Cherokee (Limited). If you read my previous thread here you'll see I was already looking around. I'm giving up the CVT that I like unfortunately but they were able to make me a deal I couldn't really turn down.

I was able to get a 15k mile lease on a Limited model for $550/month with $1000 down which seemed damn good to me. I was ready to walk away on earlier prices but they were able to nearly match my currently monthly payment (within $10) so I was happy with that. The manager and sales guy gave me some line about being just a couple cars away from reaching their bonus for the month so they really wanted our business. I didn't really buy it but it was still a better rate than anything else I'd seen. I also went to Ford but at a similarly spec'ed Explorer they were incredibly expensive, and their lease rates were terrible.

The lease should be a decent option for me since I'm so close to work these days (less than 10 miles ), and it I get bored with cars pretty quickly. Yes it would be nice to not have a payment some day, but I haven't found the car that I like enough to run it into the ground yet. Until then it's something new every 3 years for me.

You get used to the shifter. I did. And now I love it. I read a lot of bad reviews on it. I guess if I slipped into a car for a few hours to write a 200 word review and I had nothing to nitpick, the shifter would be it. Trust me, the shifter is perfectly fine.

Yeah, it wasn't a dealbreaker but it did seem odd. The only other thing that bothered me right off the bat is that the CD player is inside the center console and not where it usually is. I store stuff in my center console right now so I'll have to adjust how I do stuff.

CD player is an option, so you could try to find one that doesn't have it.
Back in the 70s, the gf and I went to look at Jeeps. EVERYTHING was an option.
You want seats? That's an option. Windshield? Option.
I forget the exact numbers but the $4000 vehicle they were advertising was about $7000 by the time you equipped it.

I already signed on for a package that includes it. It's not a big deal, just something I'll have to get used to. The quick glance I took at it made it look like it could easily be removed, but I'm not sure.

Did you get the diesel engine?

I did not. Honestly I didn't think about it but there's not many nearby diesel stations, so I would have to go out of my way often to refill. Plus the price was already high.

Most fuel locations have a diesel pump.

At least those that are brand or local common.

Carry an adapter with you if you intend to use the large truck stop diesel pumps as they often do not fit cars.

C&D ran into this problem when testing the diesel SUVs recently. Only BMW included an adapter, apparently.

TDI owners often carry one as well.

Plus, there is often no line at the truck pump, and of course there are no gasoline cars in line blocking the truck diesel pump.

I have never seen a diesel pump off on it's own, it's either on the same island or between two gas pumps. I find myself having to wait once in awhile fill up with diesel, never have to with gas.

Well, the big trucks have huge tanks, and consequently the truck stops have high flow pumps with large nozzles. It would take a lot longer to fill up with a car diesel pump.

These high flow pumps are usually by themselves if a gas station has them for trucks, because of the different nozzle and because of the room needed for big trucks.

I remember having to top off a 5 ton truck and genset on a trailer at a car pump one time when I was in the Army. For some reason we couldn't use our regular POL point. I remember it taking forever. I think I pumped 160 gallons...

Picking it up tomorrow! I'm pretty damn excited. It sounds like he couldn't find one without a CD player installed but I think I can live with it.

I have an 08 Limited 4X4 Hemi with 24K miles on it.

I was pretty darn excited just to sit in a 2014 Limited in the showroom the other day!

Only pic I have atm. Also this one does NOT have the CD player which I'm happy with. Not sure if it's because I asked him to find one without it yesterday or if this didn't come with it by default, but I'm happy.

got my tdi jetta in 2003 and have 110k miles and have never had to much of a problem fueling up. And NEVER needed any kind of adapter. Nor do I know any other TDI guys that have such an adapter (Though I live in Texas, so I have a limited sample size. Many its a northern thing?)

Do you fuel up at truck stops? The adapter is for the larger big rig diesel pumps. In many areas, these are the only diesel pumps you will find easily near you. The adapter opens up a lot more fueling locations to many people.

If there is a vehicle diesel pump around here at a gas station/convenience store, there is typically only 1 or 2 pumps and they are with the gasoline pumps, meaning they are often occupied by people pumping gas.

If you have an adapter, you can roll on over to the big rig pump, which is far less busy.
