I'm going Wednesday through Monday. We're staying at my dad's new beach house on Pompano Beach. This will be my first time going to Florida. Any suggestions or tips? We might go to Disneyworld or Epcott Center on Saturday.

I love going to the beach, so i'd be happy just hanging out there. Are there any nearby beaches that have waves to surf at? I'll post pics when i get back.

thanks!

Not a surfer, but, I think Deerfield beach is just ok. Florida coast isn't known for surfing, but, if I remember from my HS days the surfers ventured further north to Jupiter or somewhere thereabouts (about 1hr north of deerfield).

Disney is a 3-4hr trip from Pompano. Best to go by the Turnpike, but it'll cost about $10-15. You may as well grab a 'sunpass' from publix so you don't have to wait at the toll plaza's there and back. Avoid the tourist trap that is yeehaw junction and anywhere that claimst to gte disney discounts is either a scam or a time-share pitch. Best bet would be to head over to the DMV and get a florida ID for $10-20 which would save you some cash on a multi-day pass, but probably not a lot on a single day.

Otherwise, I dunno what to say, Florida doesn't have any major suprises that I can think of, just watch out for the RipTides and Man-o-War (/Jellyfish). Head down to south beach and enjoy the scenery (bring some quarters for parking, or go to one of the garages).

Hope you get some nice weather.
