my stupid cd burner!

half the time i try to create a cd, it doesn't recognize my burner. the iomega 12x10x32.

i update the drivers... doesn't work

i can't even uninstall the program cuz the uninstall thingy won't work. i did it from the start menu... and what do you know its still THERE! the iinstall cd won't let me just write over it. ARGH!

*sniffle*

i wouldn't be in this mess if my parents didn't call me and go "can you copy this and this for us" before i went home. GRRRR! i'm leaving in an hour, its a FLIGHT for pete's sake so i can't neccessarily just zip back to my dorm room to burn it again... oiiiiiiiiiiii

Ummm, updating the version of whatever burning software you're using will help.
(That you omitted in your post.)

man that sucks = P ... sorry to hear, if you still have time, maybe try taking the burner out completely before uninstalling the program from control panel/add/remove programs... ? ... then try installing again after that... hope it works out for ya...

Did you restart after you uninstalled? Sometimes the program isn't completely removed until you restart.

I had the same problem with my Iomega (same exact one). I have no idea what was causing it, but after I formatted and reinstalled Windows 2000 (I was going to do this anyways, ProEngineer fscked my system) and reinstalled the software, it works like a charm. Probably not the best solution, but just wanted you to know that your burner isn't broken! :)

NoVon and freesia, did yall have other burners in your system previous to the Iomega? I did...I think that may have something to do with it. Also which OS's are yall running?

it's gotta be the drivers for the burner. i have a sony 8x and a plextor 8x with the same specs as you (easy cd creator 4.03 & winME) and they work fine. do you have a model number for the burner?

model no. for burner: ummmmm where's that? :) no serious. if its on the box i'm gonna go home for it. if its on the drive then its right next to me.

mind you i also have no tools at school so i have no way of opening up the comp... and amazingly... my cs majors neighbors don't have one either. haha nor does my computer inept cs major roommate. :)

The model # for the drive is ZIPCD3840INT-A. I don't know what to say. Seems like Madmacks had the same problem, and solved it the same way I did. But that's such a pain to format and reinstall just to get your burner working. You may want to try a different burning program, such as Nero, you can dl Nero from download.com. You might want to try posting this in Technical Support, too. Maybe someone can help you more there. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. :(

Aren't Iomega devices funny about the order in which you install things? Anytime I ever read the little book the require me to install the software before putting the drive in. I put in a USB Zip250 drive for a friend and it wouldn't detect it at all unless I did things in that order. I have no idea if it even makes a difference really... but thats what the little book said so okie dokie.
