I'm going to Brazil late June! (Sao Paulo, Iguacu, Rio)

My whole family used to live in Brazil for 10 years or so before moving to the US, but I've never been there. I'm finally going to visit some roots (and a few family members still there, of course).

I'm looking forward to it, since it will be the first time I've left the country for years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks 🙂

Oh, and providing Brazil progress past the group stage of the World Cup, I should be witness to some raucous events, so attending some festivities is already on the to-do list 😀

be ready to want to hit everything that moves down there.....(plenty of condoms, lube, etc)

seriously.

ok, maybe not everything, but defintiely the women...unless you are drunk and into "experimentation"

You'll have a great time! Several years ago I went down there for a wedding in Sao Paulo, then to Rio for a few days. Finally to Iguacu for 5 days. If you are making the trip from Sao Paolo-Rio by road, I would recommend a stop-off at parachi(sp?). Take a day trip on one of the sail boats, awesome!

Rio's Ipanema girls FTW! You have to eat at Porcau (pig out) and visit the Christ.

Iguacu falls are amazing, make sure you see it from the Argentinian side 'the devils throat' as well as taking the speedboat up to it, itaipu dam worth a visit, may also want to go to 'City of the East' across the border in Paraguay, fairly dangerous place though.

I can give you plenty more info if you have specific questions and want to PM me.

You'll have a blast. For whatever reason the women there love Americans - if you're of age and have any kind of rap at all, you can't help but get laid often by gorgeous women. I think Rio is my favorite city in the world - it's just beautiful there. Have a caipirinha on me!

personal experience?

Personal experience-= don't wander out of the main tourist areas.

The drug gangs drive around in massive armored trucks like the ones that deliver cash to banks here - Brinks, Wells Fargo, etc.
Your life is meaningless to them.

After what you said in the Mexico thread, it doesn't sound like you have'd very good luck, nor enjoy going out of the country.

Not sure how recent this is but I found it online. I'm pretty sure it's a bit outdated since I think Detroit passed DC as the most dangerous city in the USA. For reference, Los Angeles/Long Beach is in the 20's.

I admit to nothing...

I don't know any Portuguese at all besides hello, goodbye, how are you doing, etc. - how do you think I'll do in terms of communication ability? 😛

Take a ton of pictures of the ladies for us. I love those hispanic women!
There is absolutely nothing hispanic about brazilian girls.

I lived in brazil for a few years. All I can say is walk around with your head held high, and they will worship you. They won't worship you for being american, because you're of brazilian decent, but they will worship you for being one of them that "made it" to america. You are the envy of them all. Have a good time with it.

Olá and Tchão. Yeah you're not gonna get far. Try to atleast memorize a few phrases before you go down to make it look like you're trying (out of simple respect for them if nothing else). Also the girls will find that cute. It's a lot funner when you're trying to communicate rather than isolate yourself.

I've spent a big percentage of my working life on projects in other countries.

I enjoy the accomplishments resulting from my hard work, that have benefited everybody incountry & at home.

I enjoy exploring on free time, but usually don't have much of that, & it's not so fun when you're alone anyway.

I appreciate that I've gotten to see & experience a lot of what most Americans don't. That's given me a point of view that I think is wider than average on a lot of things.

I miss the companionship at home.
