I'm going downstairs to lift some weights.

I'm gonna go do some light lifting -- trying to get in shape. In the past, I usually would lift for a month then I'd quit. I want to see if I can keep it up for a year and see if there is any change in my physique. I lift weights with poor form but hopefully, it's better than not lifting at all!

get a likeminded friend to do it with you (lifting weights, that is - get your mind out of the gutter!) and you might find it motivation enough to make you stick with it

It's not. Maintaining proper form and safety in general are the most important things. All other concerns are secondary, including how much you lift.

www.exrx.net has animated .gifs showing proper form for almost every exercise out there, I suggest you spend some time there. 😉

I had that site in my Favorites but lost it a while ago, thanks for the link 🙂

What's your routine like?

I just do some arm curls (2 sets of 10 reps with 120 lbs) and bench presses (3 sets of 10 reps with 175 lbs to 180 lbs). On the weekends, instead of bench presses, I do the kind where you lift the weights to your chest and shoulders and then over your head (2 sets of 10 reps with 140 lbs).

Kind of embarrassing. I just do it to do something. I'm trying to keep the routine really short so I won't give up on it. I want it really short and easy so I can stick with it. I want to include sit ups in my routine because I'm been noticing that my back can get stiff really easily -- when I shovel snow, my lower back stiffens up in about 1 minute.
