I'm glad I'm not trying to sell my house

The house across from mine in the subdivision has been in foreclosure and unoccupied for about 8 months. In September I saw some activity and sure enough a woman bought it. She seems nice enough.

So, tonight while I was neffing, I thought, "I wonder what she paid for it?" So, I looked it up.

In 2002 the house was bought new for $298,000 by the original owners.

I paid $335,000 for my house in July of 2005.

She got the house for $200,000. :Q:confused::(:brokenheart:

Desperate realtor maybe?

I know I wouldn't want to live in Detriot, but then again I don't have a job there.

Depends on the Area. My town was named #21 best place to live in the United States so I don't think that helped the decline much.

It's static mostly. Very local good deals around the nation and people go into hysterics when it makes it to the news.

Detroit itself is a smallish city when compared to whole metro area. Actually the city is Belleville, it's about 20 miles and 4 or 5 suburbs between me and the Detroit city limit.

I say as long as you can make the payments and don't plan on moving, don't sweat how much your house is worth. Enjoy it.

I thought Michigan was having problems with people who couldn't get work, so they're selling their houses and leaving.

You thought correctly.

Fortunately I'm retired and the wife is immune from the local economy.

We might want to sell in 10 years or so when she retires. Having the house sell across the street from me for $135K less isn't going to help with my bottom line.

I saw some poll that said 26% of people believe their house lost value in the past year. All that tells me is 74% of people are morons.

All fvcking houses lost value in the past year. You think yours is special?

Michigan should change it's state motto to "Abandon all hope ye who enter here"

anything within commuting distance of NYC is never going to see their value decline that much, unless NYC sees a slide back into what it was like in the 70's and 80's, but I can't really see that happening (in fact, the trend is reversed... more and more poor people are getting pushed out by gentrification in the entire surrounding area).

I used to work with this guy a couple months ago who was convinced that he could buy an empty lot in Detroit, sit on it for a couple years, and turn a profit on it.

you sure that 200k was what she paid in total for the property and not what she took out a mortgage for? If that was the total, then that would suck unless the house was in very shitty condition.

I looked at the VanBuren Township website that shows a history of the house including taxes, accessments, etc.

I have no idea of the condition, I really never talked to the people across from us. The house was built in 2002. In the eight months it was unoccupied the landscaping kinda went to pot. Although, they had a Larch that was 20 feet tall and I told my wife I was going to steal it if they didn't water it! :) Sump pumps only run around here during heavy rainfalls, so I don't think it sustained any water damage if the electricity was turned off. Pic of my house. Their house was of similar design.

Hah. Not only NYC, but Jersey City, Newark, Philadelphia, and Trenton. Jobs-a-plenty and our towns are nothing but parking lots. We have the largest (volume)import/export ports on the eastern seaboard. And New Jersey seems to love pharmaceutical companies as all the major players have facilities here.

I just checked Homes.com & Belleville Michigan have 245 foreclosure home at less than $300K, and 154 foreclosure at less than $200K. That is a whopping 91 foreclosure home between $300K & $200K and there are only 73 listing.

This indicated that there are 55.49% of the $300-200K houses that are for sales is under foreclosure.

It seemed as if $200K will buy a 2000 sqf house year 2000-2005 with 3 bedrooms & 2.5 bath in Belleville.

Sorry to say but it does look bleak in your town.

Belleville, Michigan @ around $200K for year 2000-2005

hey, I can't hate... some of my company's biggest clients are pharmaceutical firms :)

I'm hella glad I moved out of jersey city, though. it's nice not living under a radioactive purple sky every night.

It's freezing, ghetto, has high taxes, higher crime rates, and the economy sucks.... You're right. Who wouldn't want to live there. Screw it, I'm packing up my house as soon as I finish this post. Paradise awaits. Detroit, here I come!
