I'm getting quite a bit of grey hair on the sides of my head... should I start coloring my hair?

I'm only 21 years old. It used to be that I'd get a grey hair here and there. I'd usually remove them with a tweezer or something (is that what did it? :Q) and all would be fine.

But lately I've been getting a lot more grey hairs than normal. And also whereas in the past it would be mostly on the right side, now it's on the left too. Keep in mind there are no visible grey hairs up top, just a few hairs here and there on either side. Nothing serious but overall it isn't a very pretty picture :(

So should I start dying and if so how would I go about doing it? Any recommendations for a "small" job like mine? Can I get it done next time I get a haircut? How long does it last?

Am I officially an old fogey???

Edited title from "Should I start dying" to "should i start coloring my hair" so as to avoid all the neffie neffermans out there who want to tell me, 'yes, die asap' or some such.

You're one of the few posters for whom I would agree with that sentiment. Nicely said, Cory.

what did i do?

I retract the harshness of my statement, since it was undeserved. I just thought you were about fifteen from the way you neffed for some reason. And I think I mixed up your name with someone else's posts a few times. My apologies for my words.

Nothing. Nothing wrong with gray hair, even on a young guy. Does your face still look young, no one's going to assume you're fifty? You're fine.

Personally, I think that grey hair can look very distinguished and attractive... but if it's going to cause you grief and you're always going to be doubting yourself, do it - just keep in mind that if you start dying your hair, you'll always have to do it. And if you dye your hair often enough, it'll cause even more grey hairs to come in because of the chemicals.

I'm 23 and I've got a few gray hairs already (stress). I used to dye my hair black just for fun but I've since gone back to my natural color (medium brown), since I was tired of dying it every 4-6 weeks. You can do it yourself or have someone (a GF/friend/etc.) do it for you. You can buy whatever color you want from just about any grocery store, Wal-Mart, etc.

- Use Vaseline on your skin at the hair line, on your ears, etc.. This will help keep the dye from sticking to your skin. It's a pain in the ass to get it off otherwise.

- If you get dye on your skin, use cotton and rubbing alcohol to get it off or find some hair dye remover (beauty supply stores will probably have this)

- Dye your hair in the shower (preferable so you don't get dye everywhere)

- Use an old towel or something to cover your neck and shoulders

Hope this helps a little. Good luck!
