I'm getting no sound!!

ok i just built myself a computer. I have sound blaster live 5.1 installed the computer w/ Klipsch 2.4 speakers hooked up to it. I can't get a single sound, I tried everything. ive hooked all the cables right, everything is plug in right, i even checked my properties to make sure that nothing is muted or on very low volume. I've updated drivers and i still have no sound. i don't even have a volume logo on my sys tray!! Everytime i try to play something it would either have no sound or it would say that i don't have a media/audio hardware. I guessing something is wrong with my sound card, but windows seems to detect it. Also it shows the sound card in my device manager too but i still can't a damn sound and its pissing me off. I didn't buy $200 speakers to hear nothing!!!

The volume control icon is the easy part.
Control panel>multimedia >audio tab
check "show volume control on taskbar"

Well since you've checked device manager for problems, have you looked in AudioHQ > speakers and looked there. There's a 'test' button.

I'm sure you have but just in case I thought I'd mention it.
