Hey,

I've been trying to install this Geforce4 4200 128MB...except that as soon as I put it in, my SCSI Host Adapter (Adaptec Ultra 160 29160) stops existing. This is a problem because my hard drive is SCSI. My guess was that it was an IRQ conflict, so I formatted in the hopes that windows would re-assign and get rid of the conflict. In the first stage of the installation of Windows XP (you know, with the blue screen and stuff), it works fine...but when it comes time to reboot and continue the installation, it doesn't work because it doesn't detect the SCSI drive!

Please help. I now cannot even start my computer anymore because the SCSI won't show up with this new card. I've tried changing the slot the SCSI adapter is in, and taking out everything except the SCSI adapter and the video card; nothing works. Please advise!

Specs:
AMD 1GHz
MSI 6330 motherboard
384mb RAM
Adaptec 29160 SCSI Host Adapter

PLEASE HELP

OK, so yeah, I've tried switiching the slot that the SCSI card is in. I can't install it in safe mode because, well, the SCSI is my hard drive and I can't even boot up or finish installing windows. As for the motherboard BIOS, it's not been updated, but I'm hesitant to do so because I'm afraid I might mess up my computer even worse...I think I have an MSI 6330 BIOS ver 2.4 K7T Pro2, but I'm not sure what that falls under exactly. Any suggestions?

This is all I found on Adaptec's site regarding video/SCSI issues....

To help eliminate the possibility of an IRQ sharing problem:

Move the SCSI controller to a PCI slot that is not forced to share an IRQ with any other PCI / AGP / or ISA slot or device. Usually the PCI slots in the middle of the PCI expansion bus fit this description. Please check with the motherboard / computer manufacturer for the specific PCI configuration details.

Check the video card or display adapter manufacturer to see if the specific video card requires an IRQ. In many motherboards, the CMOS / BIOS setup utilities have an option to disable the allocation of an IRQ to the AGP slot - disable this option only if you have verified that your video card does not require an IRQ

Verify that all IRQs not specifically required for ISA devices are set to "Available" or "PNP/PCI" in the motherboard CMOS / BIOS setup utility

Verify that all devices not being used are disabled, this will allow the resources they are being allocated, are potentially freed up for allocation to another device - this is accomplished through the motherboard CMOS / BIOS setup utility (Example: when not using the onboard COM / Serial port on your motherboard, it can usually disable and free up the IRQ it is currently being assigned.)

what brand of GF4 are you trying to use ?
