I'm getting color banding from my PS3 to HDTV via component

But when I use the HDMI on my Dell 2408WFP, it's perfect. I've tried another PS3 component cable with the same result. Should I return the PS3 or does this happen with the component output?

EDIT: I just tried it on the component input of the monitor and it's fine. I guess the problem is the television.

It's a 34" Philips HDTV. I got it about 5 years ago. It worked fine with PS2 component and DVD component. The problem just seems to be the PS3. I got another Sony component cable to make sure it wasn't the cable and it had the same problem.

That's bizarre. I haven't heard of any complaints of banding over component on the PS3; I haven't experimented with component cables personally (I used HDMI with my PS3). Do you have a receiver you can pass the signal through? Do you have any HDMI inputs on the HDTV (I'm guessing no since it's so old, but it doesn't hurt to ask)?

How about internal options on the PS3? Display settings, accepted resolutions, Super-white off, Y/Cp/Cr RGB Full range, etc.? Are those even available if you don't use HDMI? For a while I had super white enabled and I got quite a bit of twinkling and red crush before I realized I needed to disable it... it wasnt banding though...

Yeah, I tried everything. I have an Oknyo receiver. The TV doesn't have HDMI.

What model Onkyo? Are you connecting the PS3 to the receiver or to the TV directly? Have you tried both, and do both give you the same problem? If you are connecting both, are they both running through component (you aren't throwing S-Video or composite in the loop, right?)?

PS3 firmware is completely up to date?

The only banding I notice with PS3 is at the "desktop" where the colours change depending on time of day. However, the Dell 2407 that it's hooked up to through component has a notoriously crappy component input.

I was able to figure out the problem, guys. The problem was I had too many grounded plugs in the same electrical outlet. Once I plugged the Playstation 3 into another outlet (in the wall, not the same power bar), it looks beautiful. I'm happy again:).
