I'm getting burnt out on FPS'ers

Anyone else here currently feel this way. Yeah I know the topic is a bit rehashed and been discussed before. Run and gun, run and gun I think I'm done for a while.

But I want to talk about some games I'd like to see as a refreshing experience. I want another Dragon Age Origins. Great game and there is not a lot like it unless going all the way back to Baldurs Gate 2 and in turn I think the graphics are too dated. Long story short, we need more games like these.

Racing games I really haven't played a good modern day racer since the original G.R.I.D. Maybe it's me, but everything nowadays seem medicore. I welcome Project Cars and hope see some positive results.

Beat'em ups, I've been wanting a good 3d fighting game for a long time. Here I'm thinking say Double Dragon, Final fight, or even another well done Ninja Gaiden. It seems Ninja Gaiden while using weapons has still got the closest to my satisfaction for the last decade at least.

And arcade type gaming give me a good solid remake of Solomon's Key

As mentioned in another thread, it might be time to give the Indie games a try. They're unique in their game play (among other things) which can be refreshing.

If you like Baldurs Gate and DAO you might check out The Legend of Grimrock.... and old-school dungeon crawler.

While a bit more methodical and slower paced, the Arkham games might fill the beat'em-up tank a bit.

I've got not a lot for the other gaps, although I know that there are some indies that do the whole isometric, party-managing, RPG thing, and do it well enough. Numenera (sp?) will definitely fit that bill when it's released. Shadowrun Returns is out now.

I'm in the middle of a play of Gone Home, and it's creepy but good so far. I've always enjoyed a run through Dungeons of Dredmor. Check out The Walking Dead from TellTale if you haven't already.

I'd usually have more, but I'm in the middle of a run'n'gun phase right now. I'm really enjoying Far Cry 3. They finally got the formula right.

The Walking Dead was fantastic!! I didn't give it much of a chance but picked it up on a Steam sale and so glad I did. Just finished my first run through a couple of weeks ago.

I can honestly say I never have ever ever felt so connected to characters in a game than that game. Near 40 yrs young and damn that game was fun. Just like back in the day reading books where you chose a path to follow and turn to that page. Died more than lived in those books. :)

I would do everything in my power to protect that little girl.

I never played any of the fighting games you mentioned but Darksider2 was a great game. I'm absolutely hooked on Xcom Enemy Unkown and I'm a huge FPS player ....The slow pace/strategy has really captivated me....reminds me of the old hidden and dangerous games where you had to plan your moves carefully....you might like it for something different?

I'm playing through Alan Wake for the first time. It's at least different, if kind of average. The production value is really good but the game play is pretty average. Nice and atmospheric though with a unique mechanic. I love surreal stuff like it, like FEAR.

I feel the opposite. Only the twitch-fest instant gratification of CoD appeals to me now. Everything else seems way too complicated and time consuming. I have almost every game mentioned in this thread, and have barely played an hour into any of them (Skyrim, Walking Dead, Xcom, Alan Wake.)

Agreed. Neverwinter Nights came between DAO & BG2. That was a great game - graphics & interface more modern than BG2 - also one of the last "PC only" greats with a real PC interface (F1-F12 + CTRL & SHIFT modifiers = 36 hotkeys). Runs at 1920x080 and came with a toolset. Huge active modding community too as a result of that. Can be a bit finicky with Windows 7 & some GFX cards, but there are ways around that.

I seem to switch between this attitude and the OP's attitude. Sometimes several times a day. Usually though I'll binge on some game for a while and then become completely exhausted with the whole genre for a while. Thankfully theres lots of cheap indie games, and I've got a good solid backlog of about 75-100 games I bought on Steam sales and never played.

One of the biggest things Neverwinter Nights offered was online multiplayer. There were "persistent worlds" servers people would play on. That's one of the huge things that was missing with Dragon Age (and an aspect of consolization).

I haven't really liked FPS since Doom was released.

They can be fun, in limited spurts for one playthrough.

The only one that I play constantly is Borderlands 1/2. At least with those, there is more to the game than just being in FPP.
