Will your winning the award deprive someone else of the award? That is, is there a limited number of the awards, or do they just give them to everyone they think deserves one? If you're not depriving anyone of the award, then just take it. Obviously someone thought you deserved the award for a reason.

At my old job, my team won the company's highest team award, and they gave that thing to anyone remotely connected to the project we were working on. I think we had 5 developers on the team, and only two really did a lot of work on the project, but probably 20 people got the award. But they left out one of the developers. He was out the day they gave out the award, so I mentioned it to our manager, and he said he'd take care of it. The next week both the developer and the manager got laid off. :Q

You barely deserve to live and breath, and yet you continue doing that. Might as well just run with it at this point.

No, you should tell them all about what a fraud you really are and how they shouldn't give you this award because you aren't worthy...in fact, you are shit.

I thought most awards went to people that didn't deserve them.

Back at the factory a guy that absolutely hated the place, his job, and life in general, got employee of the year. I think they were using it as a motivational tool. I don't think he saw it that way and ended up getting fired a few months later.
