Not worth it. You'll spend a fortune getting it fixed (I noted that it won't start on top of the body damage) and then you'll never be able to sell it for anything near what you put into it thanks to the salvage title. Get something a few years older with higher miles that hasn't had the crap beaten out of it.

It probably will not start because in that corner of the car ( where it was bashed) is where the fuel cut off sensor is.

If you are getting it as a parts car, and it is cheap, go for it.

They want 7 g's for THAT!???? Bleh.

Spend another 2 and get a very nicely equipped year or two hyundai elantra, complete with warranty and a clean title.

I wouldn't spend more than $2,000 on that thing, if even that.

I guess if you can get it cheap and you can get a deal on getting the bodywork and repairs done from your uncle, it's probably not too too terrible.
Since you're 16 your probably just looking for a car that you can beat the hell out of in HS and college, so it might not be bad.

Personally, I'd stick to something that is accident free and is a little older, but I don't have many good connections in auto repair.

RUN AWAY RUN AWAY RUN AWAY NEVER TURN BACK NEVER HAVE SECOND THOUGHTS RUN LIKE THE B-JESUS

Salvage car with that damage for $7k? Hell no. RUN FAST. This car is worth $7500 in excellent condition. In fair condition "mechanical problems or blemishes" worth no more than $6500 according to kelly blue book.

Throw in the fact this has major exterior damage and doesn't even frigging start I'd say it's a fixer upper worth no more than a couple of thousand.

EDIT: Having actually read more of the thread now I'd say only buy it from your uncle after he's fixed it. DO NOT buy it and then get him to fix it going on his quote - too much risk. If it's easy enough he can fix it and then you can buy it from him, otherwise just don't bother.

You can get a perfectly good car for cheap without the hassel of this.

I have the '95 GXE model of that car.
Paid $4500 in the summer of 2000 when it had 45k miles. One of the best deals of my life.
It now has 65k miles. I expect mine to last at least 5-7 more years, past 130k miles.
If it's in good condition, the car will be relatively trouble free.
re the salvage title... not too sure about that.
If you can get a good deal ($2g's ain't bad), and your uncle can fix it up good, go for it.

But if you do decide to get it, I hope you have money for mods, 'cuz that thing is dog slow.
The a/c saps away a ton of power, and the car has no low-end torque (or any for that matter) so it sucks going uphill, especially with a full load AND the a/c on.

Be ready to save for headers ($300), pulleys ($150), and maybe intake ($100) and exhaust (varies) and it'll be noticeably quicker.
Or Hotshot has a turbo kit due out for the 1.6L GA16DE (about $3000), which might be the route I take once I save enough $.
The ultimate mod is the FWD SR20DET swap from a JDM Sunny/Bluebird.

God bless Nissan, I LOVE my Maxima, really hoping I can afford a 350Z early next year as well.
If not then I will probably go with yet another Maxima (insurance is my biggest concern).

Long live Nissan!

I have a 93 sentra now with 5 speed. With 4 people in it and AC on it's dog slow. A dead dog. Still, it's a good car. I bought it at 142k miles 8 months ago and have since put 10k miles on it. I get nissan to check it when it goes for oil changes and have yet to make a single repair. The thing drives well for a car of that age. Although personally I've bought only two used cars in my life this one was an extremely lucky purchase. I really couldn't be happier with it (paid $2300 last year).

I totally forgot the point of why I posted :)

The car is a bad deal, you can get a '96 Maxima in good condition with higher mileage (but running) for $5,500 if you look around, I found mine on AutoTrader.com

But that car right there is not a good deal, the body work alone is gonna cost you, let alone mechanical problems....

Guys, he's not paying the $7000 listed there.
He says the auction should end at around $2,800.

Looks-wise, the car itself is pretty ugly stock.
I've done my best to make mine look tasteful, yet not too ricey here.
