'Been waiting since the friday before for an answer.

I have applied to a vacancy with a large international insurance company. The role is a entry-level telephone/language role (getting paid extra to work in my own language), 12h shifts from 8pm to 8am, 4 days in 4 days out, 25d holiday.
Having done the same for IBM i know you're hardly ever at work, it's less than 5 months on duty and 7 off (do the math).

The office has the most goargeous view (it's on an airfield) and the location is a quaint fishing town half hour from here.

On top of everything, i would be receiving a 20% nightshift bonus making it nearly 50% more than my previous wage, and enough to actually settle for a few years.

Still no answer from the recruiters.

The recruiter actually used to work for them, and was convinced i should have no problem landing one of the many spots they have. Interview went fairly well too.

So basically im here, in a hostel full of strange people, waiting on a yes or no that can change my life ... the anxiety is killing me. I emailed them but no reply yet ... got no pc or tv to keep my mind from looping back into itself ... must ... get hired ...

Heh... the Hostel was probably a poor choice. I would have stayed at a nice hotel with a restaurant and bar while I was waiting on my response :)

Good luck to you

8pm-8am 4on 4off sounds nice.
Ive been working day's for last 10+ years, and my body still always wants me to revert to night schedule ....

Meh... I've worked the 7:00 pm to 7:30 am shift before. It kinda sucks. Sure, you get 3 days off, but you're going to spend one of those catching up on sleep.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Joking aside, emotions are normal and they love to fuck with us. We can feel them, but still use our logic and reasoning to make good decisions. The freaking out will pass, no mater how bad it seems now. Just don't do anything stupid in the meantime. Find a book to read or follow up in person, but make the decision with your head and not your fear.

@bob ...you worked 24.5h shifts?

Working 12h nights isnt *easy*, it takes discipline to sleep during the day. But in a couple months you get used to it and naturally wake up at 5pm.

I would be working HALF the days of a year (4 on, 4 off) which is 6 months. On top there's 25 days holiday ... one month of work is 15 days on my schedule, so i have 4 1/2 months on duty and 7 1/2 off.

@Paladine

Dayum; a Dune quote and a username lifted off of Dragonlance. You are already cool.

Its not easy to keep waiting ...

Gonna try cooking some fancy chipotle chicken with a uber-long prep time to keep my mind off for a while.
Too impatient right now to read anything.

Hmm, keeping you waiting in a hostel?

One might suspect the interview to be merely a ruse in order to lure a bunch of people into this particular hostel for several days....

Just masturbate. That'll ease like at least 40% of your worries and get you to calm down a bit. Just don't overdo it.

Does it pay well? No offense meant it sounds like you’re applying to work at a call center though? Having worked with the public all my life I can’t fathom looking forward to it :D

Yes, yes it does. You Gringos will probably laugh at the wage but it's anything between £27~29k/year which in the UK is a nice bit of money, specially for someone with no real skills. Average wages are £18~20k so ...
