I might try this tomorrow.
i know a guy who writes perl while drunk.
... better than when he's sober.

See, this would never be a problem if we used the metric system.

Brilliant idea.
35 gallons in liters is... 132.5 liters.
6ft in meters is 1.8 meters.
So, now I'm comparing the volume of a 132.5 liter trashcan to a 5.832cu m box.... And my answer is still totally illogical fitting with what I know from experience
..... Okay, wtf am I doing wrong? Have I forgotten basic 3-d math, and volume isn't calculated by multiplying x*y*z?

your 5 1x1x1 cubes should have given you a clue.
4.7 cu ft is 1 cube 4.7 x 4.7 x 4.7.
now i'm confused, is it 4.7 cubed? or 4.7 ^3?

4.7 cu ft is 1 cube 4.7 x 4.7 x 4.7.
now i'm confused, is it 4.7 cubed? or 4.7 ^3?
4.7 cubed is the same thing as 4.7^3.
it's like saying 4.7 squared is the same as 4.7^2.

so one cubic meter is 1 x 1 x 1
5 cubic meters is 5x5x5 right?
so what is the OP confused about then?

when you write out the number, you don't write "4.7 cubed", you write "4.7^3".

So much misinformation in this thread. Arg.
Instead of correcting every last error:
[*]EyeMWing, your realization is now correct, those weren't 1 ft^3 objects. 35 gallons is 4.68 ft^3.
[*]Jagec, this problem has absolutely nothing to do with the system of measurements, people in this thread are just drunk/incorrect/misinformed.
[*]LoKe, you can't say 4.7 = 4.7*4.7*4.7. That is just simply wrong. You were correct that 35 gallons is 4.68 ft^3, but after that you were completely wrong.
[*]Platninum Gold, just as I told LoKe, 4.7 does not equal 4.7*4.7*4.7. You cannot do that in math and still be correct. 5 cubic meters is 5 meters * 1 meter * 1 meter. See how 5 = 5 * 1 * 1? The numbers match when you do the math. 5 cubic meters is NOT 5 meters * 5 meters * 5 meters. It would be incorrect to say 5 = 5*5*5. That just does not make any sense.
