Welcome to the family. I'm still a proud owner of a 2nd gen Ipod. I recently bought a new replacement battery on ebay for only $20 and each charge lasts about 20 hours!!!

Congrats! I'm listening to my 3-YO first-gen 10GB iPod as I write this. With a NewerTech replacement battery, I get 21-24 hours of play on one charge!

You got ripped off. But who knows why you post a thread about a product that TONS of people own? Want a pat on your back?

How easy are those to install? I have an ipod mini and I want extra battery life.

It took me about 2 minutes to install a new battery for my 2nd gen ipod. I'm not to sure how easy it would be for the mini. I found this link by a quick google serach:

wow thats not a bad deal... my 256mb flash player is still goin strong and i don't think i'm gonna invest on a jukebox player unless its a good one... (ie: 60gb+) my music collection is almost at 40gb and it would be a waste to buy one only to have to replace it soon. plus im broke.
anyhow, congrats on the purchase! :D

Got a free 4gb mini from my bank, I believe it's first-gen. To be honest I think it kinda sucks.. but it does play music and the price was right. If I were buying one, it would probably be that x5 one.

No idea on the Mini, or whether it would improve battery life in any event. The 1st- and 2nd-gen iPods have more potential than the later ones for increased battery life, simply because they're larger and can accomodate a larger battery. The installation was tricky - the battery came with special tools for cracking open the iPod but poor directions - but once I got the iPod open it took literally less than a minute to replace the battery and reseal it.
