Yep, after over 3 1/2 years together... yesterday I went into new york city to see my buddy Izzy (Israel is his real name), and we put together a really sweet engagement ring.

stats (for the stat monkeys):

center stone:
princess cut, colorless, no visible inclusions, .56ct

2 side stones:
princess cut, colorless, no visible inclusions, .47ct total

setting:
tiffany style, platinum.

I'm not a rich man, so i think its really nice... now the next step is to get her parents alone together, so I can ask their permission, then... gotta think of a sweet way to ask.... hmmm....

but, the ring is purchased!
i'm so excited! :D

EDIT Here's a pic of the ring to tide you over (not the best but it works) I'll be going down to her place today and hopefully get her parents alone to ask them :D

Here's a picture of her.. .looking at me like I'm crazy :)

EDIT 2:
ok! the weekend trip is over, and successful. Although I did not get to ask her parents at the same time, I did get to ask them both without her knowing. Both I could tell had an inciling that I was about to ask... reactions:

dad: <big smile> Welcome to the family! <handshake>
mom: <couldnt stop smiling> <2x kiss to the forhead> You two make a wonderful couple... she couldnt have met a nicer guy. <more smiles>

woot! now, the final 'yes' has to come from her... hopefully next weekend. :D

Another Pic of her!

edit 3: alright, we ran into a little setback... I wont be proposing this weekend as originally planned... Last night, I got a phone call from me woman informing me that her uncle just passed away... complications from a surgery he just got done. he was only 55 and quite the funny fellow... Sooo, basically instead of her coming up so I can propose, I am going down to goto a funeral / wake....

:( I think death is in my life lately... my grandmother just died about 1.5 months ago, and now this... :( death sucks.

edit 4:

wow, what a week... I went down on wednesday like I said, and we all attended the wake/funeral... then she drove us back to CT. that was friday night. We stopped in to my parent's place on the way through to drop off her car, then we went to Friendly's for dinner... at dinner I was testing the water as to her thoughts on engagement and stuff... (i was supersmoove) and basically got out of her that she thinks: "we have to move on with our lives."

ok, now that basically was the 'go ahead' on me asking. but the thing was, I hadnt planned anything... so saturday after showering, going to the store and seeing episode 2, we were sitting around watching the tube, being tired. I went upstairs to my bedroom, grabbed the ring and yelled for her to come upstairs for a minute that i wanted her to see something... she's like "NOW? I'm watching beastmaster!" haha anyways, I kept bugging her so she came upstairs and we went out onto my balcony... i leaned over the edge looking down, and she did the same "Hey look , a tree... is that what you wanted to show me?" then i said yes, and knelt down on one knee to "tie my shoe"... then looked up at her and told her how much she ment to me and that I loved her with all my heart. Her eyes got teary, i reached in my pocket and pulled out the ring and said "Katherine, will you marry me" at this point, she was giggling and all misty.

she said yes and gave me a big smooch.

I'm so happy... :D

Edit again: CARP !! I almost forgot. haha, heres a pic of her hand, with the ring on it :D HERE!!!

Get the real thing.

hehehe.

There's a Tiffany store near where in live in Tysons Corner. Man, I can't even go in there because I don't have a nice car or expensive clothes.

Oh well.

Congrats man, that's awesome! I remember how excited/terrified/wired I was driving home with my wife's engagement ring. That was 1996.:)

Thought of a good way to ask her yet? We'll need details after you do of course.;)

Welp, she has been wanting to just goto a park for some time now... But unfortunately the weather hasnt been nice whenever she's been up here (I live in connecticut, her in the bronx) Sooo, I was thinking on taking her to a place called Gilette Castle State Park, where there's a ferry that takes you across a river to the castle. I think i'll do it there, but how... im not sure yet.

decistions decisions.

thanks to everyone for the congrats!! :)

My brother-in-law was REALLY nervous after he had picked up the ring. They were driving down and past a jewelry shop and my sister suggested they go look at rings (dropping a blatant hint, she had been doing this for weeks) but he had the ring in his bag. He tried to think fast and make an excuse but instead stopped watching the road, then looked up, slammed on the brake but still rear ended the car in front of him. Luckily there was no damage to speak of but it's still a funny story.

aw man! at least there wasnt any damage. my girlfriend has been dropping hints like crazy lately... actually the day i bought the ring (yesterday) I went to my parent's house to show my mom the ring (she didnt know about it, and started crying :) ) while i was there, I changed my oil, and my mom was talking to my girlfriend, then I get on the phone and she says 'your mom told me you bought a ring' I was like... 'ok sure' knowing #1, she didnt tell. #2, girlfriend is just trying to get stuff out of me.

she always blows suprises, not this time!!

i hear tiffany is out of style now... not as exclusive as it once was anymore... everyones getting it... i hear girls prefer more exquisite things now.

It's possible that you did, but I don't remember. I'm really happy for you though. :D Oh, and princess cut is becoming one of my favorite cuts. Nice selection. :)
