I'm eligible to upgrade on Verizon, but nothing it seems, is worth upgrading to.

Currently have a Droid1, rooted, running Ultimate Droid @ 1ghz.

Is it just me or are none of the current phones *really* that much of an improvement at the moment? At least enough of one to burn up my upgrade on?

Is anyone else in the same situation where you're just going to sit on your upgrade until we see what the LTE offerings are, or at the very least if the Apple rumors are true, to see what Motorola and company bring out to compete with it?

DroidX, Incredible, Fascinate, they're all nice but really what would be the huge benefit over my Droid? A few mhz and a slightly larger screen, still running 2.2 Froyo.

This month we'll see an underpowered HTC Merge, the DroidPro which I have no interest in with that blackberry style keyboard, and the Continuum. Meh.

I hate being eligible to upgrade because it burns a hole in my pocket, but I just don't see anything being worth it.

I feel the same way. I'll be a year into my 2-year after this month and Verizon is usually pretty good about letting you upgrade at the 1-year mark (+$30 fee), and right now I'm not interested in anything.

There's a rumor of an Incredible HD, but if all that's new is a larger screen and a front facing camera, I'll pass.

I'm patiently waiting. But on the upside I haven't gotten bored of my Inc yet. Which is good for me because I swapped my Droid for the Inc after 4 months.

I too have the Droid 1 and am eligible to quit tomorrow. Think I will. They been screwin me for the past year. Totally lied about the fees.

Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for yours? Cuz I paid 300 bucks plus the contract.

Permenant root for the G2 and myTouch 4G needs to be achieved.

I've got an LG Chocolate VX8550 so a smartphone is looking pretty nice to me! Went to the Verizon store and played with the Droid 2, HTC Incredible, Droid X, and Samsung Fasinate. Liking the X the most cause of the 4.3" screen and great photo/video capability. Basically all I use my phone for; calls & camera. But my vison sucks so the big screen is a real plus. Also liked the Fasinate; photo/video quality seemed kinda iffy (could be wrong here), but the 4" AMOLED screen is a beauty. Droid 2 was similar to the X, but was too hard to read. I don't need the slide-out keyboard and don't really like the touch sensitive buttons either.

Didn't really care for the Incredible at all, don't understand how that's still cnet's editor's choice.

My fascinate is smooth as butter running launcher pro and rooted with the bloatware removed.

But you have this disease called Bing . . . and TouchWiz.

Played with a co-worker's Epic, definitely smooth and fluid though. Would be very nice with vanilla Froyo on it.

See thats another concern I have about waiting...I don't live in a major city, so the odds of LTE rolling out in Altoona, PA anytime soon are slim, I imagine. I haven't seen any early coverage maps so I don't know how it'll go other than the NFL cities thing, so waiting on LTE may not benefit me either.

That's another requirement any phone will have for me, too, is full root and an active ROM community like the Droid1 has. I won't be stuck running TouchWiz or MotoBlur or anything. Sense I can handle but I prefer vanilla android.

Oh well. What can ya do? Just wait I guess.

Huzzah! I'm free! I'm free! I'm free! I'm free!

Now I can chill without a cell phone for a bit. Recommend you wait and see what goes down with the new phones and also Verizons new plans (assuming you stick with them, which I did not).
The upside is I have a nice Droid which is still good as a PDA.

Switch over to Page Plus for $29/month with your Droid.

1200 minutes/1200 texts 50mb data, just install 3G watchdog to keep an eye on and if needed shut down your data, you'll still have WiFi and a great phone. I think the Moto Droid gen 1 is still a great phone...

I 2nd this. I have the 1200/1200 TnT plan, my son uses the Power Text plan, and the wife just uses standard minutes. My Droid 1 performs flawlessly on PagePlus, and you can just bring your Droid over from Verizon and it will function just fine. http://www.kittywireless.com

But I cured both of those diseases. I used TitaniumBackup to freeze Touchwiz and Bing, installed Launcher pro which is superior to the stock android launcher in many ways, downloaded all the google apps, and got a fixed browser with google as default. The only major drawback is that the gps is horrendous but if that's not important to you its a great phone.

if you have the Droid1 and you are happy with it...stick with it. Getting a new phone will give you a bigger screen but not much else.

There are supposedly some very, very nice phones coming to Verizon shortly. The LG LTE phones that are rumored look kickass, there is the possibility of the iPhone and who knows what else that haven't leaked yet.

Stay where you are if you are happy.

Which is perfectly fine since none of them HAVE gingerbread installed.
And when gingerbread does come out it will likely be for tablets and similar devices anyway.

Underpowered for Gingerbread? Wrong. I would bet money that even the Droid 1 at stock will run Gingerbread.
