I'm dumb - how do you get WMP to play songs in the correct album order?

This is probably a dumb question, but I just cannot find a way to get Windows Media Player to play tracks in the proper order. Say I rip an album to a folder, and have tracks 1-10 there. It shows in the mp3 properties of each file that they know they are track 1, 2, 3, etc. Yet windows media player completely seems to ignore this and playing them psuedo-randomly.
So I sort by filename, which works fine and its in the right order, but it FORGETS the sort when I close it and re-open it. I end up having to re-sort by filename everytime I do this, and its just a pain in the ass.
What am I doing wrong?
Am I forced to use a playlist every single time - so I have a playlist for every album?
Why isn't playing tracks in correct order just the default behavior anyways?
