we are having our chinese new year celebration today .. i know its late, but we had a big dinner today and the soup was shark fin! good stuff. environmentalists are trying to ban shark fin soups in resturants! bah!

It doesn't bother you that they kill all those sharks, cut off their fins and dump the rest?

I support hunting and fishing, but only when done responsibly; meaning kill only what you are going to eat. Shark killing just for the fins is an irresponsible waste of resources.

Also, considering the growth and reproduction rates of sharks it may not take too long to wipe them out. So much for the soup; enjoy it while you can.

Sorry to crap on your thread and food preference, but that is just how I see it.

Seeing that a long time shark hunter (in Australia) is leading the way to protect the shark now, and educate others, I am not the only one.

I would, however, support a balanced harvest and full use of the carcass though.

It tastes damn good!! I've heard that it's pretty expensive though. I wouldn't know, my mom brings it home for free 😀

it's soooo good. it can cost around 35 bucks a bowl, but that's at a regular resturant.

and if you can afford it, try the soup called 'buddah jumps over the wall'. it's basically shark's fin with all the best stuff in it. i think the story behind it was that the soup was so good that even buddah jumped over the wall out of the monastery to eat it.

can i cut your hands and feet off and drop you into the middle of the ocean? i am sure the salt water will feel great.

Oh man, stop bashing the man. He's just merely enjoying the soup. He's not the one cutting and killing sharks. I believe that they are controlling the killing now. IF you want to question what he eats, why don't you guys stop eating meat???

if he didn't eat the soup and others didn't eat the soup then no one would cut the fins off of sharks. i am sorry, but i don't see your logic.

I don't see your logic.. you are saying that if he doesn't eat shark fin soup then no one else would? that is a slippery slope logic right there... so is the no eating meat thing...

What about killing cows for their meat?? Do you think they love to be slaughtered??

shark fin soup rocks!

For those who are against it, i guess you never eat steak or fish yeah? Waht about sushi?

Contrary to popular believe, the shark in shark fin soup is NOT an endangered species. Although those animal rights activists would like it to be listed

No, but the cows are raised to be killed for food. The sharks are not.

If the sharks were being farmed, I would have no problem with it.

First of all, you need to specify a species. Second of all, I would like to see some data to back up your claim.

Cows are to be raised and killed for food?? Where's the logic?? Just because some of you don't agree to killing sharks for the fins, then you're bashing those who are eating it? Man, get real.

If the sharks were being farmed, I would have no problem with it.

what?! that makes no sense, you're basically saying that the value of the life of one creature is greater than that of another creature, with the only difference being the circumstances under which they were brought into this world. i'm no vegan or anything, but i think that argument is flawed.

May not be long before it is:

shark fin page

And, wrt to cows (and toss in pigs or other animals bred for food), at least they are not maimed and left unable to function physically, destined to die a slow, tortuous death.

and may be extremely hazardous to your health
