Yep, sittin' at home alone on a Friday night with absolutely nothing to do and nowhere to go (my first such Friday in like 2-3 months!) Yesterday my roommate and I opened up a single "half-bottle" of our Robust Porter, which we brewed 3 weeks ago. We didn't drink it. We just poured it to see if it was carbonated. It was. No, it really wasn't a waste of beer, since this was the crud at the bottom of the fermenter so there were too many deposits. But it told us that the bottle conditioning was, for the most part, done.
So 20 minutes ago I took a bottle of the Porter outta the fridge, poured it, and let it sit to allow it to reach the optimal drinking temperature (roughly 52 degrees). I'm drinking it now, and it is absolutely wonderful. I know that your first beer isn't supposed to be good. Its supposed to taste like cardboard, and that's if its even drinkable at all (I've heard horror stories of bacteria-infested beer!) But we took every precaution, we bought good equipment, and we had some good advice. And we used filtered water, which definitely helped.
Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that Batch #1 is a success. If any ATers in the DC area care to drop by and taste it, we have 46 bottles left!
