Yep, sittin' at home alone on a Friday night with absolutely nothing to do and nowhere to go (my first such Friday in like 2-3 months!) Yesterday my roommate and I opened up a single "half-bottle" of our Robust Porter, which we brewed 3 weeks ago. We didn't drink it. We just poured it to see if it was carbonated. It was. No, it really wasn't a waste of beer, since this was the crud at the bottom of the fermenter so there were too many deposits. But it told us that the bottle conditioning was, for the most part, done.

So 20 minutes ago I took a bottle of the Porter outta the fridge, poured it, and let it sit to allow it to reach the optimal drinking temperature (roughly 52 degrees). I'm drinking it now, and it is absolutely wonderful. I know that your first beer isn't supposed to be good. Its supposed to taste like cardboard, and that's if its even drinkable at all (I've heard horror stories of bacteria-infested beer!) But we took every precaution, we bought good equipment, and we had some good advice. And we used filtered water, which definitely helped.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that Batch #1 is a success. If any ATers in the DC area care to drop by and taste it, we have 46 bottles left!

Beats the hell out of the Busch Light I am drinking (30 rack for 9.99, not complaining).

Is it cost effective? How much are you spending per beer?

I'll join you in a homebrew!

I brewed a morebeer Amber Ale kit recently... I'm not sure how I screwed up but it's too bitter for style... maybe, I should have had my friend run the hops through pro-mash... but my bittering went a touch overboard.

It's not a bad beer, by any means, but when I make it myself I'm generally pretty critical.

Get another kit RIGHT NOW and brew it, you'll be out of beer before you know it, so you really need to have two batches going at once :D

Nothing better then a fresh home-brewed beer!

My first batch was a German-style golden pilsner, not based on a kit but on a pretty simple recipe I was given by my local brew-supply shop & it also came out great ... super fresh & I noticed that I seemed to get less in the way of ill-effects from drinking a lot of it compared to mass-produced stuff.

The only downside is that djheater is 100% correct ... you need to start another batch tomorrow because those 46 bottles will be gone before you know it!
