I'm continuing my search for an AWD vehicle.

Sliding and nearly fishtailing in my RWD C-class this morning lit a fire under my @ss to find a better winter car. About the same time a Nissan Murana happened to drive by me and outside the name this seems like a pretty solid car. Any thoughts on this?

may i suggest Subaru or Audi?

Around 30k loaded. Got a pretty good deal on it.

No Subaru - need something respectable, subaru is too much of a "I'm 20 year old punk" car, no offense to anybody. I checked out the audi, but 2004 models don't have Nav system so I will have to wait until 2005 come out. Also one problem I have with audi's is that there're too many on the road.

You may want to look into a toyota 4runner. Highly rated and decent looking. How much space do you need?

Just put some snow tires on the Mercedes and a bag of sand in the trunk. No need to go out and buy a new car.

I'm not married so space isn't an issue.

Nissan Pathfinder
Toyota Highlander
Subaru Legacy

All I vehicles I would put way ahead of the Murano. I picked my uncles up from a dealer (it broke down in WI, while he was visiting) and drove it back to his place in OH. I really didn't like the ride or the way the cabin was laid out.

Ding! Do not complain about how poorly your car handles if you do not have appropriate tires for it. I used to drive a RWD Chevy S10 V6 over 100 miles a day in the winter. The read end on that truck was LIGHT. I had a nice set of snow tires on it and only about 100 pounds of extra weight in the back, never had an issue. Without the snow tires, it was a nightmare!!!

Now I have a Subaru Legacy with snow tires (I live in Maine). I can pull off some crazy things in the Legacy, the AWD systems does a great job of spreading around the power.

And I have no idea why you would think a Nissan is more pretigous than a Subaru???

He's probably thinking of the whole ricer thing that comes with the WRXs, same idea how Honda CRVs are ricer cars too because of Civic drivers.

That's probably where his bias is coming from.

Go test an 05 Legacy GT.

Viper GTS

No doubt, however you rarely see 20 year old punks driving around in Legacies :) The new Legacies are very nice for the money IMO. Someone who have to have a lot of blind bias against Subaru to not even consider looking at one.

You see a lot of punks driving around in Neons with coffee can mufflers, so the 300C would be out of the question too since Chrysler makes both cars :)

avoid Rav4 at all costs. Benz is dreadfully terrible in the snow or mud.

i'm 20, and i wont give a Sh*T if you call me a punk in my STi (stock, no rice) i'll still blow by your Murano

I also DO NOT understand why ppl buy a 5-passenger SUV instead of a cheaper, more gas efficient sedan. I am baffled. (X5 or TL)

I like the Ford Escape / Mercury Mariner / Mazda Tribute.

Mine gets good mileage for a V6 with AWD, tows my boat, rides nice, etc. However, it is definitely NOT a luxury vehicle.
