I'm confused

Ok, when I transfered to my University I was told I would be placed into EH 102 instead of 101 because of my English ACT score. Now when I read over the core curriculum requirements, it appears that 101 is required by my major. I'm enrolled in 102 right now, but that makes zero sense to me. Why was I placed in 102 if I HAVE to take 101? It doesn't list alternative classes either like it does for other Core classes. I guess I will talk to my advisor, but it looks like a higher level Comp class will NOT replace 101 for the Core requirements. That just doesn't make sense.

Because I really don't want to take 101 if I can take another class instead. 101 is boring as hell and so is 102. I'd like to take something that is actually not boring and simplistic.

That's a different story. If a class is required, there is usually a more advanced version of that class you can take (102). Doesn't mean you can get out of the class altogether. Most college programs have classes like that to make sure everybody is on the same level before moving on to the more advanced classes. I wouldn't worry about it much, should move pretty quickly at least.

usually, college freshmen english courses go like this, the 101 is mostly grammar, and the 102 is mostly composition.

See if your school allows you to test out for a fee.

You can CLEP, but you have to do it with less than 12 hours of credit. I'll see if they offer anything else.
