Isn't there a type of listing that's a mix of Buy-it-Now and auction format?

Like the auction starts off, but there's always a Buy-it-Now option regardless of if there are bids.

That way people can bid bid bid, but if someone feels like it they can just Buy-it-Now and not have the hassle of trying to win the auction.

Some are buy it now until someone bids on the item, and then BIN is null and void.

There is, but it goes away once the reserve is met, or if there is no reserve then the buy it now goes away once a bid is placed.

there are reserve auctions that have a buy-it-now if the reserve isn't met. once it's met, however, buy-it-now is removed.

qurazyquisp put it nicely.

The BIN feature is there until the BIN price is reached by a bidder. If it goes above that price then it will disappear.
