I just won an auction. Now I'm having second thoughts because I could have had a new one for about $10-$15 according to Pricewatch.

Anyway, how do I make sure that's it's actually a Radeon 9600 Pro when it comes, and not something else like a Radeon 9600 SE? Also, should I be concerned about the life of the card, if the previous owner overclocked it, or just used it a lot?

The 9600pro has nothing to unlock even through a bios flash iirc(I had one). I suppose you could use rivatuner to check the number of pipes, speed etc.

you won the auction. pay for it.

if you want to know if it was overclocked, used much or what exact model it was then you should ask the person you are going to buy it from, in the future it would behoove you to ask before agreeing to pay for it. it would also be in your best intrest to check the market value of any item you are going to bid on before you agree to pay for it, that way you know exactly what kind of deal you are getting before you agree to pay for said item(s). if you are having problems with the video card or have any specific questions that the seller cannot answer then this would be the next best place to come for answers.

if the seller is unsure of the exact model that is being sold then this link should be helpful if it is a "Made by ATI" 9600

I would worry about it. If the heatsink is attached well -- even overclocked, those cards don?t get very hot at all.

A stock 9600 pro is clocked 400/300DDR. (600 effective).

A good way of knowing is to benchmark the thing and ask what others on AT are getting w/ their 9600p's on a similar system. Just makes it less complecated for u w/o having to check core, mem, and bus speeds.
