I'm buying a house! What do you know about water heaters??

Like it says, I'm getting ready to buy my first house (HOORAY! No more rent!)

So, I've been looking at doing some different things (energy saving wise) One thing is a tankless hot water ehater. Well, does anyone know anything about them? Electric or gas? If you have one, do you like it? How well does it work? I like HOT showers, not luke warm....

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Tankless water heaters, from what I've read, aren't replacements for normal water heaters. They just can't keep up. They are there as supplements and give you hot water NOW! instead of waiting for the water to warm up. They will work in conjunction with existing water heaters and give you longer running hot water for longer showers, but they are not intended to be stand alone units.

Once again, this is just what I've learned about them from limited reading and a couple sunday morning home improvement shows 🙂
