Hi Guys,

I am thinking of building the following system pretty soon. I just need something powerful for CnC3 running on full resolution and be able to host a 8 player game. Currently my specs lag the game at 1280x1024. Its terrible

This is what I am thinking of building, but if you can recommend to downsize some of these compoments, please let me know as I am real tight on budget.

GA-N680SLi-DQ6 with c2d 6420
Pariot DDR2 6400 800 2gb (1bx2)
Seagate 250gb sata2
MSI Nvidia 8800 GTX 320mb
Antec trupower 550w (dunno if my current antec tru 430w will be able to support 8800)

All of this is costing me approx $1240

Thanks for any help and support

Well, it looks good at the moment.

Do you *really* need that 680i chipset? :D

yeah, 680i is a little tempting. plus this board comes with silent pipe which is best for mosfet cooling and overcl0cking.

what secondary board are you suggesting?

Well...

Everyone is suggesting DS3 so...

Bah, I guess it is just preference.

I mean, you did say you were on a strict budget so...

Do you really need to OC your E6420 like a madman? I mean, you just need to get it high enough so your 8800GTS doesn't get bottlenecked. Its not like you have a GTX or something.

Since you're "real tight on budget", you should definitely consider the Gigabyte 965P-S3. It overclocks to between 475 & ~525 fsb, and costs about $115, last time I checked, at least at newegg.

What the bloody hell? The S3 and DS3 both cost almost the same?!?!

Which board is the better one to recommend then?

The S3 is the better board as far as overclocking, unless you can guarantee a V. 3.3 on the DS3. Wow, and the S3 is only $85 now at newegg.

edit: Oops, that was the 945 S3. Here's the 965P-S3: link.

okey, from looking at your eq, i can tell your a average overclocker.

1. stay away from the 680i its not like the NF4 days. Better yet, its like dropping a DFI-Expert on a newbie Overclocker. 50% of the board failures are actually idiots who think overclocking is plug and play. Also the other hand full of idiots that forget to reset cmos b4 bios flashing, and end up killing the board.

2. i suggest this ram instead:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146563
however you better get it quick b4 the rebate expires. Those ram basically will do DDR1000 @ 4-4-4-12 @ 2.3V right out of the box. :D

As for PSU: you should really consider a better company. I know the trupower is OK: but it wont compare to a corsair HX520.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139001
OMG its only 114.99

Lastly, id pick up a ASUS p5N32 over a 680i. Unless you really have patience and you seriously know what your doing, i wouldnt go with a 680i.

However, and this is VERY VERY important: If you never intend on going SLI, SCREW NVIDIA then. My 680i board has terrible Vdroop issues, not to mention, NB/SB overheating problems when overclocking. And the list goes on and on and on....

Look at an intel solution. Trust me, a lot more happy intel platformers out there then nvidia goers.
