FINALLY! I've done EVERY OTHER DAMNED thing in this company!

And she's a beauty to boot!
Compaq Proliant 6500R 3x500MHz PIII, 512mb ram
14x18.2gig SCSI Drive Array = 208Gig Logical Drive
NT4 Server Box

And this is my 'toy' box to get acquainted with building servers. Once we know it's good, I'll rebuild the sucker and it becomes our new 'Network Hostdrive' server for the users.

Next project after this is our new Exchange server.

Just think. We've got over 200Gigs for 86 people.

I give it 3 months before we start sending emails out for people to clean their personal network drives.

Hmmm, it's been awhile since we've scanned for Pics/movies.

Three whole months?! Without knowing what kind of work your users do, it sounds to me like they must keep everything and the kitchen sink on their network drives! I would definitely become a disk space Nazi if my users filled drives up as quickly as you're predicting.

I guess you could cap them at 1GB, then use the remainder for pr0... no, ware... er... I mean work related stuff. ;)

Yeah right? I've got other Server boxes with 640mb.

I should push for a nice round number, like 1gig ram. That should do nicely.

Stingy bastards.

We just got a compaq in the other day. I forget the model number.. ML530 maybe. 4x700 PIII Xeon processors, 4 of those 18GB drives, 1GB of ram. When it came in, we couldn't figure out who ordered it. Last I saw, it was just sittin in the box looking for an owner. I volunteered to take it home, but they wouldn't let me ;(

Speaking of Compaq servers... we just got in a Proliant 8000 the other day... 4 P3-700 Xeons with 2MB cache each, 4GB memory, 21 x 18GB 15K RPM drives, plus an additional 14 x 18GB drive array... running Win2k and Oracle 8i... This is one MONSTER of a box! :D It's replacing a quad PPro 200/1MB server, so I'd say that's a bit of an upgrade.... :)
