There comes a time in a man's life when he has to get rid of his X850XT AGP because he bought a new 1333MHz bus CPU and needs a new MoBo.

so i wanted to know what type of card to buy at the moment. the 320MB 8800 starts at 400$ where i live so thats not an option for me, plus im not that crazy for DX10 compatibility.

the way i see it i can:

1) buy an el-cheapo 7300 to hold me out until the next generation causes a price drop and then maybe get a 8600GTS (i saw it almost matching a 8800GTS in most games)

2) buy an X1950Pro 256MB for around 220$ and that would probably be the last card i ever buy (unless of course it dies and somehow becomes magically void of warrenty)

there is also an unspeakable 3rd option: find a 1333MHz bus compatible MoBo with an AGP slot (ASrock something) and keep the mighty X850XT.

my hardcore-gaming days have passed, and i mostly play RPGs.

what do you think?

the system will be:
C2D E6550
Abit IP35-E (not bought yet)
Twinmos 2GB PC6400 CL5 RAM

Well erm I wouldn't invest a lot of money if your hardcore gaming days are over, I'd prolly go with the x1950pro, in your case it offers decent performance for it's price.

1 = Best
2 = Worst

1) 8600GT
2) 8500 GT
2) 7600 GS
3) 7300 GT
4) X1300 Pro
5) 7300 GS

I think they are best to worst in that order. I think the 8500GT and the 7600 GS may be pretty equal. Listed 8500 GT first because its DX10.

I'm sorry to be the one to have to mention this, but the VGA standard has been superseded a long time ago by many other higher quality standards.
