So bored this vacation.. I've applied for work at about 14 places, lost count after 10, and not a word! No one is hiring.. no summer school.. the computer is getting boring.. playing basketball for 2 to 3 hours a day is getting boring.. and there is absolutely nothing to do! I'd go out to places.. but I have no money, and I can't travel very far cause I only have a half a tank of gas! :(

Anybody got ideas on what to do to get rid of this boredom?

I would.. but if I'm going to read anything, it'd be the required reading for next year, which my english teacher told us not to read until two weeks before school starts.. :(

nah - books suck :p

follow up on those applications! Bug the hell outta them, "did you check my application yet?" and keep on calling back until they say you don't have a job there. You need money to have fun unless something really lame and simple keeps you happy :)

To clear your boredom problems for now, go to shockwave.com

I've called about 9 of the places already and they say I'm either not qualified or they aren't hiring.. I'll check back on the over 5, but I probably be turned down as well. I even tried for an internship in San Jose at Vitria since my uncle works there but I couldn't..

14 places and no jobs?? wtf? where are you applying? you may have to apply for some grunt work jobs if that's all you can get with your current experience.

I applied to 4 computer shops that said I wasn't qualified, 3 department stores saying they weren't hiring, and CompUSA and Best Buy wouldn't hire me as well. The other 5 were The Good Guys, Brookstown (they got cool gadgets..), Old Navy, Borders, and Office Max that I have yet to answer.

Right now, most of the girls I know are out of town.. that leaves like 5 to talk to. I guess I'll try that out.. :)

<< you've got a right hand, don't you? >>

Seriously, I think it's a good idea, it helps see the world in a different perspective.

Counter-Strike is getting boring as well.. Every server I go there is some jackass using some kinda cheat, hack, etc. It's fun to play on Pistol only servers though.. makes it more fun.

Are you letting them call you back or are you calling these places back? I just found yesterday that it's better idea to call them back first...shows that you have initiative. "The more you know" :)

Stop feeling sorry for you self and go give your time to a charity! Maybe Habitat for Humanity or the local food bank. Help others and good will come of it.

Yeah, follow up like mad. Thats how I got my job at GE Medical System after my freshman year of school. They are damn impossible internships to get, but I applied like 6 months early and followed up like 5 times. It all worked out, and I now have a very professional, high paying job.

Follow up on those, and you get a kick-ass discount at best buy, but you may end up spending everythign you make.

Well I don't know how low you wanna go but money is money right. Go to restaurants and get a job bussing tables or something like that. Restaurants are pretty much always hiring so if you have absolutely no experience that might be a place to make some money.
