Ever since my old roommate and his dog moved out, I've been getting bitten by fleas all over my feet and ankles. After a couple days of first getting those bites, I tried to kill the fleas by powdering and spraying my carpets with those flea killer sprays. The problem settled down for like a week or so. But now, a week later, fleas are starting to show up again!! Ugh. Is there any way to kill off these pests completely? If not, do you guys know of any effective flea repellents that I can use to stop the fleas from at least biting me? I really need some advice on how to get rid of them. Because of the flea bites, I can't wear flip flops or skirts without people thinking I have some terrible, contagious foot disease and it really sucks not being able to because it's really hot here.

Your problem is that you killed most or all the mature fleas when you sprayed, but the spay has no effect on unhatched eggs that those fleas had laid... you'll need to spray several times to killthem all off & the bad news is that since you now have another round of mature fleas, you also have more eggs!

Buy more flea spay, then get some of the strongest DEET-based bug repellant you can buy & douse your feet/calves with it ... it won't completely stop the biting but it'll help.

We had them at our old house. We got bite like a 100 times.

We bombed the house with raid bombs and everything stopped.

I had the same problem, bomb or spray the house and in 7-10 days they're back
then I found out about 20 mule team borax. Sprinkle 2-3 boxes on your carpet
brush in w/broom and wait a day or 2 before vacuuming. This kills eggs in the
bottom of the carpet, ending the life cycle. Haven't had any problem for over 5
yrs. now, I just re-treat every other year make sure....

You killed the fleas, but the eggs survived. You need to clean your carpet on a weekly basis for the next six to eight weeks. This involves daily vacuuming, weekly flea bombing, flea powder in the carpet, and a few carpet shampoos. But it would have been cheaper and easier to have just spent $10 a month on over the counter advantage from your vet than to go though this hassle.

Alternatively, you can reintrouduce the dog in to the dwelling, treat him with ADVANTAGE for dogs and let him act as poisonous flea bait. Keep the treatments up and three months later you will be flea free. This worked for me when my cat got out and brought fleas back in with her.

***EDIT***

You can find Borax in the laundry supplies section of Target and stores like it.

This is the real answer. I just solved this problem myself a few weeks ago. Let me add a little to it:

1. You must powder EVERYTHING! Including all carpet below all of your furniture. It would also help a lot to powder things like couches where the material is not leather. After placing the powder down, use a broom to sweep it into the carpet.

2. Wash all of your clothes and do it at a laundry mat. Wrap the clothes in plastic garbage bags before you go home so the fleas do not retreat to the clothing.

3. After two days have passed and you vacuum, make sure to empty the vacuum right away and get that garbage bag out of your house asap.

Thats what I did as well. Just remember that Borax won't kill the live fleas so you're still gonna have to deal with them for a while longer. What it does do really well is kill both the current batch of eggs, and makes life very inhospitable for new eggs laid. Won't be long till your Flea free.
