I'm not stupid by any means, and actually a very quick learner. When i took my ASVAB (military intelligence test), i scored VERY high (90th percentile). If you show me how to rebuild a carb or give me the tools, i'll figure it out. If you give me a book about world war 2, i'll get through the first page, lose interest, and then struggle to make it past chapter one. IF i ever do finish that book, i probably won't remember a thing i read.

What does that mean ?

It means that you don't understand stuff that you read very well. I hope you understood that.

it means you dont have the desire(im sure you have the ability) to sit down and read something and remember what you read.
reading comp was the highest part of my ACT score by a considerable margin.

I'm not a teacher or anything, so take this with a grain of salt. Reading comprehension is your ability to basically take something away from what you read. You remember what you read and what it was about after you finished reading it. It probably has something to do with your level of concertration when you're reading as well. I dunno.

One of the reasons I do so well on tests is because I have very good reading comprehension...I'm a fairly slow reader because I only read things once. But I usually remember what I read and can draw on it pretty easily.

It doesn't mean there's anything wrong, only that you learn best by doing and by being shown how to do something. Others learn better from reading.

If you don't read well, it's obviously going to affect your comprehension. I know a guy who tends to read one.................word.............at...........a........time. He has trouble with comprehension just like any of us would if people spoke to us that way.

Try this:
Read a chapter of anything and summarize it in one paragraph in your normal surroundings.

Then:
Go to somewhere in your home and sit down facing a wall with nothing on it (no distractions), or table or desk with nothing on it and read the same chapter and summarize. )If necessary, put up a screen to separate you and ur room-mates if that helps!

Sometimes, your mind wanders at the slightest distraction, even an outline of a pen out of the corner of your eye.

I'm no expert, but this helped me in the past.

If this doesn't help you, then you're royally fvcked bro ! Did I say that? oops! :p

Triumph means he can type out what reading comprehension is, but because you're bad at reading comprehension, you won't get anything out of it :p

Our whole class scored really high on the ASVAB, but that is because the instructors told everyone to cheat.

At MEPS where we take the ASVAB, they threw out two guys b/c they were caught talking. You're only hurting yourself if you cheat on the ASVAB.

What is your reading speed? Do you consider yourself to be a fast reader? Average? Slow? Sometimes I read too quickly and it makes it hard to comprehend things. I've found that slowing down a bit helps a whole lot as far as understanding what I'm reading. Of course, some books are extremely dry and are very difficult to read regardless of concentration. It usually helps when the book has stories or experiences that draw the reader in so to keep their attention.

i consider myself to be a pretty fast reader, but the speed is worthless if i can't remember a thing i've read.

well look at your thread title... it's almost an oxymoron. it's like saying, "give me a speach on how to listen." i just thought it was funny, because any explanation would require some reading comprehension on your part!

It doesn't mean anything. You just need to have an interest in something that you're reading. I have "trouble" reading all the time when it comes to school textbooks but I have no problem reading a magazine.

Look on the bright side, at least you didn't go talk to one of your professors about it and have her ask you if you were dyslexic. :(

This is true. I was simply saying that sometimes reading things more slowly can make it easier to remember things, as you have more time to concentrate on comprehension. :)

It means you don't get the "main idea" of the reading. Its easy to correct. Next time you're reading somthing ask yourself as you read, what's the author trying to get accross? What's he trying to tell me. Do that about every paragraph and pretty soon you'll pick up the main points automatically.

oh yeah and it means you're a RETARD ;)
