I'm back with SETI, and have a question.

datalink7

Lifer
I haven't done SETI for a while, but I'm back now and hope to stay for a long time (though I won't check this forum often at all, I believe in the project and am a part of Team Anandtech).

A question though. I remember the email that went with my account, so I could still acess it (cfem@qwest.net). But I don't remember the password. I tried all the ones I could think of on the webpage, including old ones, but no go on each of them.

I can still do WU's, but would like to update my profile. I cannot do this without a password. The email (cfem@qwest.net) no longer exists.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can get the password? Contacts at the SETI@HOME project?

Thanks.

On a happier note, I am at 98 WU's and should reach 100 by the end of Monday or early Tuesday, depending on how long I leave my computer on 🙂

I've seen this piece of advice given to folks in your situation.
Try getting ahold of qwest.net to see if they will activate your old email long enough to retrieve your password from SETI.

Good luck & welcome back!
Hopefully someone else will have another option for you.

Glad to see you are going to return to action, "datalink7". 🙂

You were one of the ones that I became concerned about when you stopped turning in WUs on September 12, 2001. Glad you are still with us. 😉

Good luck contacting and getting some cooperation with Qwest.

Good to hear your back with us Datalink7 🙂 ,I seem to remember you were 1 of the members me or Smokeball got active again about 1 yr ago

re password if you can't do what Spacehead said then your stuffed🙁

Welcome back and good luck with the password. I wished Seti would make it a little easier for this reason.

This is the reason I always use a web based Email account (I use my spam account) when signing up for things like this. I've got a friend who has about 250 SETI units but can't do anything with them because he can't access the account. 🙁

In fact, maybe we should change the FAQ to recommend a web based Email address to use for DC registration?

Yeah, but if people would write down or remember their passwords it wouldn't matter what type of email account they had.
What if the web based mail company goes under, it's just the same as the ISP going under, isn't it?

I've had a Yahoo Email address as my spam/registration account forever and I'm pretty confident that it's safe but you never know.

Great point! Better than recommending a web based Email account would be to recommend writing down the password in the first place. I know that's kinda a "duh" but I never have. I've still got my original Email from Berkeley saved in a folder under Yahoo. 😱 Definetely should be included in the FAQ (if it isn't already).

Thanks for all the welcome backs🙂 I just hit 100 WU's today 😀

The thing is, I use about 6 different passwords and have them all memorized. But for some reason none of them work with my SETI account :Q. I have no idea why I would have chosen a different password for my SETI account, but apparently I did.

You don't chose your password with seti. They email it to you and you can't change it.

And it's about 15 numerical characters, something like 124514874125478, and i know i couldn't remember that number if i wasn't using it daily!
