I'm back from my trip! Pictures of your suggested places!! (Now MORE PICS)

Thank you for your help in this thread!

Solveng was a terrible & empty tourist trap. The pictures gave me an impression of an authentic Dutch town.

Hearst Castle was nice. We didn't care about the room inside, but outside was the best.

SF is nice as always. Monterey had nothing to do outside of the aquarium & 17-mile drive.

The PCH drive was such a rush. We missed out on so many great hiking/camping opportunities. You gotta give yourself 5-7 nights, not 2.

Enjoy.

Nice pics! Hearst Castle was really cool when we went there years ago; kind of a weird surrounding area though.

We get killer dungeness crab at the casinos in Biloxi when we visit ... they must fly a plane in from the West Coast every Friday ... friggin' amazing ...

Hearst Castle was interesting. There was actually a noticeable earthquake when we went through, which is not a pleasant experience when you realize you're standing in a building that was built before earthquake safety codes were a thing.

The neptune pool is still used by Hearst family grand kids. Talk about lucky bastards.

 Nice pics!

You know, I've lived in California for 21 years now, and I've never been to Hearst Castle nor have I driven up the coast between Santa Barbara and San Francisco.

Glad you enjoyed some of what our wonderful state has to offer.

How much for the crab?

Whole crab alone boiled at SF Fisherman's Wharf- $10.99/lb. One crab was $23~. It was SO delicious and has far more meat than a lobster.

1/2 crab cooked fancy as pictured, with scallops, prawns, and a bed of rice/salad at Monterey Old Fisherman's Grotto- $30

They were market price.

Considering the location (ultra expensive SF) that seems reasonable. Is that lunch or dinner price? I'm lazy perhaps I should check the menu

I keep looking at that picture, lol. I know where I'm going next time we're in the Bay area.

Yes, that place was great, dinner price. This is not SF, but Monterey (120 mi south). It was highly recommended. Great food but humble prices. Reviews: http://www.yelp.com/biz/old-fishermans-grotto-monterey

As for SF, yes there are many mid to high level restaurants that do the crab for $40-80. I think that's bullshit when you can just walk to the Wharf, get a crab from one of these guys (below), and eat standing up at the counter ($23 ). No tip. Soooo good. It was better than at the restaurant.
