I'm back, albeit at only 800 MHz :-)

Finally got my Athlon up & running. Would've been back last night except for the stupid people at ASUS & their boot sector virus protection. :| Who would have known that disabling that annoying feature would prevent you from formatting any drive connected to the ATA/100 controller. Stupid, stupid, stupid. :|

Oh well, at least I have a computer again. I went almost a week without it. :Q

Only bad part about it is I'm only at 800 MHz. Apparently the unlocking that was done when I got it wasn't sufficient, so I'm not able to change either the multiplier or the bus speed. And right now I'm too damned lazy to take my heatsink back off & re-do it.

OK, I'll shut up now...

:D

No, no, you're not a turtle. You're a Yugo.

:Q

What's wrong with 800?

Because my P3 was at 933, & this CPU came guaranteed to 1000. 800 is well... Dissatisfactory.

Wait, disabling the boot sector virus protection causes you not to be able to format? Are you sure about that? Wouldn't it be enabling that feature that would cause such problems?

The virus protection prevents any app from messing with the boot sectors, which of unfortunately includes formatting them......

Um, I think enabling it will prevent you from formating. This option has been implemented a while ago? Turning the option on prevents a virus from writing to the master boot record. Unfortunately the BIOS can't tell the difference between a virus writing to the MBR or a format :(
