Israelis arrest bus 'lynch mob'

Israeli police have arrested seven Arabs suspected of lynching a Jewish man who killed four Arabs on a bus in a northern Israeli Arab town last August.
The arrests angered Israeli Arabs who said the men had acted in self-defence to stop more killings in Shfaram.

Arab citizens make up about 20% of the Jewish-majority state of Israel and frequently complain of discrimination.

The extremist pro-settlement supporter apparently opened fire to protest at Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip.

At the time of the attack, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon called the killer, Eden Nathan Zaada, a "bloodthirsty terrorist" - language usually reserved for Palestinian militants - and settler groups condemned the killings.

Gag order

Media reports quoting police say the arrests were the culmination of a 10-month investigation by a special police team.

A gag order was imposed on the entire investigation but was lifted following the arrests, Haaretz newspaper reported.

The killer was beaten to death by a crowd that stormed the bus after he had been subdued, apparently trying to reload his weapon having killed three passengers and the driver and injured 20 others.

"Police and the security forces have been looking for an alibi to distort the facts and deny the massacre that took place in the town," said Muhammad Baraka, a member of the Israeli parliament who lives in Shfaram.

He said people had turned on Zaada to "defend themselves against an armed man who may have killed someone else".

The army said at the time that the 19-year-old from the West Bank settlement of Tapuah had deserted in protest at the withdrawal by Israel of settlers from the Gaza Strip and four small West Bank settlements.

"Our main aim is to bring those who committed the cold-blooded murder of Zaada to trial and justice," police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld told journalists.

He shoots at a group of people, kills 4, injueres 20. The rest of the people in fear of their life end up killing him. The police issues a gag order on the press because.... this is.... I dont know why. Then the police arrests some of the people who stopped him?

Wonder what would have happened if it would have been an israeli arab who killed 4 israeli jews...

What people call truth is all about whose ox gets gored. Truth for man is that which protects his false identification. Every human being is a complete nothing of absolute zero consequence to the cold benign indifference of the universe and everybody, having been put down as children, in reaction to this ill treatment, inflates his or her own self importance to a near infinite degree because the truth of his real unimportance in the great scheme of things too closely matches the feelings of self worthlessness generated by the lies contained in those put downs. Man is an animal that, having been told that he is too worthless to be loved, refuses, him or herself to love, and it is only the act of loving, not being loved, that gives man any real sense of meaning. Man is upside down in the world seeking to fill his broken heart with love that can only be filled by loving.

Law and order must be maintained. Lynch mobs should not be tolerated, and in this case that is exactly what happened. The man had been disarmed and the authorities were on the case.

I do agree that if the roles were reversed and it were Jews killing and Arab in these circumstances charges would probably not have been pressed.

Both sides have been hating each other so long its become a lifestyle.
Perhaps some teaching or instruction in the art of forgiveness is in order.
Its like the big fight you have with the wife and a week later neither one of you remember why you had it.

I hate to say this but Ex President Bill Clinton was correct when he said--
Man is upside down in the world seeking to fill his broken heart with love that can only be filled by loving. -- in response to questions asked about Monika Lewinski!!

Israel has to put a stop to it's theologically biased immigration policy before anyone can forgive them for it.

What is that supposed to mean. I did not vote for Clinton precisely and exactly because I did not like his infidelity to his wife.

Like in the United States, this is the rule when reporting events in Israel.

Arabs = spawn of Satan.
Jews = Chosen, worthy of worship

fixed.

I have a hard time believing a lot of these pro-Israel people give a damn about the Jews living there, unless, of course, they are Jewish.

Yet many on both sides have been making concessions, and that is where forgiveness can come in. However, Israel's current imagination policy will inherently sustain grievances as long as it remains, there's no "art of forgiveness" to handle that until a stop is put to the bigotry.
