I'm assuming you guys in the US have HOV lanes right?

On particularly busy highways often the far left lane might be an HOV lane. High occupancy vehicle lane. Reserved for cars carrying 2 3 or more people. You get a hefty fine for driving inn this lane just by yourself. Just curious because of the slower traffic keep right thread.

I have heard some cities have an HOV lane, but not around here.
We do have a dedicated taxi/limo lane over by O'hare Airport, and some roads have bike lanes, and we do have reversible express lanes, but no HOV lanes.

Yeah, we don't have any in Chicago cause there is too much traffic. However if you drive in Indianapolis, Louisville, Nashville, Atlanta, and many other cities, they have some pretty good stretches for morning and afternoon commutes.

on I-10 in houston we have HOT lanes, high occupancy/toll. if you meet the occupancy requirement you go through the free lane, if you don't you go through the toll lane. at certain hours the lanes are toll only.

We have HOV in the Bay Area, but it's going to HOT soon.... CA needs money :(

While I like HOV in general, I think it's time to look at expanding highways too.

We got them, just almost never see anyone using them. Would have been better off making an extra 2 lanes out of it (including buffer between HOV and regular lanes)

HOT got a 20 mile section of interstate completely rebuilt and expanded in less than 5 years, which is practically a miracle.

We do, and depending on the location, you can ride solo in them for a fee. Fee changes every few seconds or so depending on the traffic load in the lane.

Yeah. I'd love to see those funds go right back in and expand our highways. I mean you can only rely on that same 4 lane artery for so many years while population and drivers keep shooting up. Congestion only gets worse unless you either expand or replace it with a suitable subway. Given very few US cities have a true subway system, I'd say it's a long shot at public transportation unless we start living like Europe/Asia.

But I think the problem with CA is we're so damn poor we can't even pave our roads well enough. There's a lot of basic stuff that needs to be done before we'll even have leftover money to expand.

I just feel like a lot of talk about adding HOV lanes is a scam. Like they talk about adding HOV lanes to the 101 in the Peninsula. It's 4 lanes right now. Thejre's no room for a 5th lane, so what they mean is converting the lane #1 into HOV. Well the US-101 already sucks to commute on. So now you'll let carpoolers get an advantage (although its well known that CA's HOV lanes are suffering in congestion too which is why they're moving to HOT so they can control congestion pricing and keep the average speed limit above 45mph), and then the rest suffer more.
