IM app for work

I was thinking that it would be great if I could IM my boss when he's on the phone with a client to get him important information and such. Is there a easy to use, adware and ad free IM client? It doesn't have to be aim - we'll be talking with each other only. Also, Windows' internal messanger is disabled at my job..

thanks!

Netmeeting. It comes with windows already and can connect over LAN, so no internet connection is required.

just use gaim.. the windows version is greatly improved btw =D

whatever you choose just make sure it logs your conversations...

I take it you don't have vmware?

Next time i have all my day shifts during the weekend, I'm installing gentoo on my workstation at work. My boss doesn't care what I use as long as I can get all my work done 🙂

Jabber can be set up over a LAN as well. Most efficient method to set it up for your business though would be to have one machine run the Jabber server and issue user names to everyone with network access, likely using a similar naming scheme to one you already have.

There used to be a program called Sametime by Lotus that one of my old companies used. The server was hosted internally and all the employees were given individual usernames and passwords. It was kinda cool to have an internal-only chat client. 🙂

😕 yeah, I'm going to emulate linux just so I can use Gaim. I'm not that die hard of a linux fan.

can you use email? everyone at work here leaves their email client open.

having your boss install some program so he can be interrupted throughout teh day isnt something he'd want to do.

LOL, all I'm saying...is that there is always a way!

do you mean MSN messenger? or the 'net send' messenging,

we run exchange, and we run MSN Messenger over exchange -- does the job.
